Usually I would agree with you. Mostly. On the topic of free is not free.
But for those of us who play nothing, and usually break even every tax year. (I have for 5 years now) It essentially is free. It's already been noted that you do not have to pay it back. Yes it is an advance of your tax refund from next year, but again, if you don't usually receive a refund then you can consider it a "tax cut".
Also, I really don't understand why there are so many shame posts. Are people are just trying to troll, or what? Totally unnecessary. I mean if we're going to be that silly about it then we might as well all collectively stop doing any kind of hobby stuff and donate all our money to others. Obviously that is just silly.
I'm not going to get into it too much here, but I've been financially prepared situation like this for about 10 years. Some people were not. Is what it is.
If somebody wants to use it to buy sweet ass truck stuff or other things, then that is their prerogative. There's literally no reason to be ridiculing anyone for it.
No need to be "high horsing" it.
What is the difference in buying a bumper now, vs saving and buying it later? Nothing.

Thats exactly what these checks are here for. They just want us spending money regardless on what is for. This countrys economy runs on us spending money and buying things.
I picked up the little Titanium 125 flux welder from Harbor freight 2 weeks ago. Its a pretty sweet little welder. Its can be had for $180 normally on sale but as low as $160 on a good sale.
Also we Installed a 2" lift on the Tacoma and currently building a updated sleeping platform as well.

Spot on! And nice. I've been wanting to get back into welding for some time now, but seeing as how it's been 10 years I know it'll take a while to not suck...

This check is a TAX CREDIT for what you paid in for 2019. The same as making a charitable contribution in the sum that would allow a tax credit. Or having extra huge medical bills. It's not considered income, will not be taxed again (that's how credits work, it's on the assumption that this is a REFUND of extra taxes). It's no different than your normal tax refund, if you happen to get one, in terms of how it's treated by the IRS. It was simply the cleanest way to give out some cash with the fewest strings attached.
Now, it does add to the debt of the country, so the chances of seeing a higher tax rate is almost certain, but it'll be uniform, across the board for everyone.
|
Yes, I do not think people realize that. And obviously I don't think any of us want more debt... But seeing as how we can't do anything about it then... I might as well prep the truck to bug out when shit hits the fan some day.

And let's not forget inflation. Supposedly MMT means we won't have any, but printing Trillions of dollars? How long will the Dollar be the world's reserve currency?
With my $1,200 I will be paying rent with half (have a roommate) and buying some gold or silver quarters from back when they were 90% silver...
My 4Runner is perfect already.

good luck finding gold/silver right now, the only 90%, I can find is way over spot, and the silver/gold indices on the market are way off from the prices you find for physical.

Yeah gold and silver physical prices have spiked! I was going to buy some then saw the premium on them right now and it's pretty insane. Hovering around 30% for silver, less for gold though.

saving it so i can hopefully move to a better place later this year.
i did however get poly bushings to compliment my adjustable sway end links. its been tough not to spend my donnie duckets on bumpers, but i know ill have to buy stiffer springs, etc so im going to have to hold off until later. i really should order the last of my steering wheel stuff so i can finalize my horn and be done with it.

What are you buying with your corona-cash?
Y’all realize that these are economic stimulus checks (basically grants), right? Specifically intended to be spent to drive our economy. (So other folk will get paychecks, pay their bills, etc.)
(Let me know if you need ideas about what to spend it on)

But grants you don’t have to pay back. Anyone who got a check is paying it back with interest next tax time. For those who can afford to spend it on toys more power to ya.
