Stereo Harness Question

I pulled the after market stereo out today and am going to replace it with my old JVC SatNav out of my caddy. I was looking at harness' online but am not sure exactly which one to get. The previous owner put a head unit in and kept the stock cd player which didnt work.

These are the harness' im looking at.

I wired mine without a wiring harness, I hated the previous owners aftermarket head unit. He had cut the Toyota stock wiring harness so i had to hard wire the new head unit I picked up as well. After following his wiring I quickly found out he was an idiot. If you don't want to use the wiring harness at all here is the color codes for the stock wires. Just look up the color code for your head units wiring harness and match up the correct colors and crimp them together. It will take a little longer but will save money and wait time on the harness being shipped

Thank you so much! Great info. The person who installed this aftermarket radio was also an idiot. I hate that we have to put up with someone elses stupidity...it only confuses me

I just bought one from Best Buy and it really was plug (solder) and play. I think it was $15-20 and they had it in stock...

I figured it out. It looks like the person who installed the aftermarket radio did not use a harness at all. Crutchfield and Best Buy all had the same harness and they insisted I use the one they specify.....if I had the original equipment then I am sure the harness would have worked but I do not so time to crimp and cut!

i am confused on the diagram. i am working with a 99 4runner and my question is on the Car Radio Illumination Wire: Violet and the Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Violet are they the same wire? because i only have one violet.

Revived from the dead.

Scrhew, did your truck come with the stock amp? I'm about to wire in an aftermarket deck and this was the best wiring list i could find. I'm no google or search button noob either.

I'm sure his did. If you are replacing from stock the harness you get at bestbuy/crutchfield should be a plug and play situation, but in my situation ALL the wires were cut so I used his diagram but if I remember correctly the wires matched up color for color anyways...

I think i just answered my own question. The amp is removed when you install an aftermarket deck, so you're dealing with the wiring straight from the harness, not the wires from the amp. Amirite?

They are not the same wire. Assume yours is the speaker wire. The other violet wire is only in the harness between the stock amp and the stock HU. If both stock amp and HU are gone, then so is the other violet wire--no biggie.

If you want to confirm, take a D cell battery and touch between the violet and the pink wires. You should hear a click from the driver's door speaker.

BTW, one error on the list is the antenna trigger is the black/white wire--4Runner had no dimmer function on the radio. My list is the factory '99 4Runner EWD manual.

Yeah. Ideally you can use the harness plug and an aftermarket conversion harness with your new HU pigtail. But if dumbass PO cut out the plug, you have to crimp and cut to the body harness.
