springs with weight not height

So I am wanting to add some weight to the front of my 4runner...a winch...hidden behind bumper so no big metal plate bumper. It will add weight...approx 90 pounds ( winch with syntheitc line, and plates to bolt to frame...there are threads on this... winch behind stock bumper)

Ive got 99 talls with KYB's and I like the height and ride....could go another inch..but dont want more than that and that would require either new springs etc on rear or daystar lift trim pack thingy's to make back match front.
Ive looked at lots of threads including the 51 page thread in the lift information sticky..but seems like most that talk about being able to take weight lift 2.5 to 3 inches. Looked at OME, tundra, land crusier etc springs and write ups
For the rear , with my 99 talls, i have airbags...so when I do add the weight in back, its no issue.

maybe the extra 90 pounds is not that big of an issue ? Any ideas ?
also I hae read that any lift is gonna require spacers so my tires dont hit upper control arms ( 265/75/16)

OME (Old Man Emu) makes stiffer springs that do not add much height. I almost went with theirs but decided against it because I wanted a softer ride. I suggest taking a look at their offerings. I don't remember off the top of my head what springs fit best for our 3rd Gens.

Sound like what you are looking for is progressive rate springs. So the more weight they add, the stiffer they get so as not to sag but not so stiff when unloaded that you regret putting them in.

thanks...in the sticky i mentioned they list all the OLD MSN EMU springs and those that are listed to take an additional 100 pounds lift over 2 inches. Thanks also...prgoressive springs is what I was thinking, just brain farted on them and could not think of them, have used progressives on other vehicles.

also with all the gravel roads I drive, and 10 ply tires ( to resist punctures on all the gravel and worse roads) I dont want to get a lot stiffer either and bust all my fillings loose in my teeth or pound my back to death....its bad enough as it is

If you have 99 tall coils on all 4 corners, even if the front drops down a little bit I think it'll be minimal. It would be like a 90# passenger & whatever amount of positive rake you get, it would look more fitting compared to negative rake.

If what you currently have doesn't work, 5100 + 99 seems like a safe direction to go from what I've read.

That's good to note about the tires. I forget that tires are also part of the suspension, the rubber stiffness plays a part as well as tread. Sounds like you might want to stick to something softer then OME's. I don't personally run them but most opinions out there say they have a stiffer ride quality than stock Toyota springs.

I would put in the winch and see how things sit. I expect you’ll loose less than 1/2 an inch.

If you want to bring it back up you could use a 3/16 or 1/4 inch top plate spacer which should gain you about 2 times that in height. You wouldn’t even have to disassemble the struts. Just loosen the 3 top bolts , lower the strut and put in the spacer. These are not popular with the 4runners but seem very common in the tacoma world. Under 1/4 inch doesn't need longer top plate studs either.

That’s what I would try first.

This.

I did the 4WD swap on my 4Runner and just used a top plate spacer (1/4" I believe?) to get back the ride height I lost until I did a more proper lift.

If you are otherwise happy with your current suspension, it is a quick fix that won't cause any other problems.

what's the make and model of the winch? i didn't realize you could run a bolt on winch with the stock bumper.

well there is a little cutting and welding...but mostly to the winch plate sold seperately from the winch and a little to the front frame rails

this is one of several...this will get you started

ah... i thought maybe there was an even easier work around that's straight bolt on, but i guess that'd be too good to be true. got it bookmarked for the "when i get into welding" mod list tho. thanks!
