There's not much to figure. Your pinon bearing is shot. You can replace it in the truck supposedly, or find a replacement 3rd member at the yards for cheap.

So quick update. I put the car on jack stands, put it in drive and accelerated quite a bit (to around 50-60mph) and there was absolutely no noise whatsoever. I also noticed uneven tire wear on the front tires so I'm still thinking it might be something in the front that's causing the whining noise. I also drained and replaced the rear diff fluid and the fluid that came out looked pretty decent with almost no metal flakes on the magnet.
