Noisy Power antenna

Lately my radio antenna has been making this god awful noise whenever I turn the car on and goes away after 10 seconds. Just wondering if it would be worth replacing or just deal with it

Does the antenna go up and down fully?

Remove the center bezel, then remove the radio. Behind radio on the left is the relay for the antenna, just unplug it.

I have the parts to do the taco whip antenna mod, but after a few hours I ended up giving up. Couldn't get into the fender. Haha

Anyway, if you want a nice-looking antenna you could try the same mod. You're basically just using the bottom mash part and the actual antenna from a Tacoma. I got both parts for like $75 bucks from McGeorge Toyota I think

This works. But I just reached my hand behind the radio from the drivers side and unplugged it without removing anything.

Radio reception is still poor but now the motor noise is gone.

Those are not that hard to change. You can buy replacement masts very cheaply. You just have to pull out the fender liner out of the passenger fender. Remove the nut on the fender and with a 10mm remove the bolts that hold it in there and change it. I replaced one on one of my rigs. :-)

If the antenna motor is damaged. I am sure you can get a hold of a used one off a junkyard, ebay etc. :-)
