So I’m tackling my injectors and valve covers today and came across this. Anybody had this happen. Spark plug came out with the coil pack. I’m concerned because the threads are stripped on the end of the spark plugs!

Not a good sign... normally though if they go, they will blow out of the spark plug hole during the combustion stroke!

Can you try and gently hand thread it back in? Any chance it's just that one spark plug that's the issue? If not, you can try a helicoil or something similar but it may be a job for a shop. Alternative is to replace the head, unfortunately.

maybe the spark plug wasn't threaded all the way in? I'm not sure if that would cause a miss or not, I would try to put a new plug in and see if it holds

I had gotten a misfire code so I assumed I fried that injector. That’s the only on that came out like that. I’m going to replace the plugs while I’m here and hopefully it work. Fingers crossed. I’ll update what I find. If I have to take the head off it will be faster just to replace the motor with a Japanese spec motor.

Ok so just tried another plug and I can’t even get it started! Sooo now to figure out what my best options are.

When I got my rig, i did a spark plug change as part of getting back to baseline.
OP didnt mention one of the plugs was stripped. Oh well, part of buying anything used.
I put I Time sert in and it's been good for 90k miles now. Ideally a non stripped spark plug thread head would be best.

If the condition of your engine is otherwise good I would say have a mechanic put in a heli-coil. I'd probably NOT mess with that myself since there'll be metal shavings and you don't want that in your engine block if you don't already have shavings in there.

ok so quick update, I retreaded the hole and added a seat to it today. Went ahead and changed out the injectors since I had them and now its running like a champ.

Any updates on if the time sert is still holding beyond 90k miles?

I recently did a plug change at 11k miles ago.
The time sert been in the head for seven years and 97600 miles with no issues to the time sert to the spark plug fitting. I say that because there is an issue with the time sert to head fitting very tight. Timesert itself is not loose. The plug looks to be burning great. Color is like the rest of the 5 spark plugs with virtually no compression loss via compression gauge.

Only issue is I have been getting oily residue on the threads, so it could be a ring or valve guide issue in that cylinder. Engine is going on 322000 miles.

I already checked the spark plug tub seal is sealing up good on that cylinder. Could be I fouled up on the oversize reaming in preparation for the timesert.

I would put in a time sert and see what happens.
