I'm very interested on this but would like to know if this increases braking power over the factory drums?

This looks great! I would be interested in future orders including the parking brake kit.

I am also curious about the master cylinder and if combining this upgrade with the TBU would required changes to the cylinder.

I will have to do some searching to see experiences people have had with other rear disc brake set ups.

I am not one for non stock mods but I must say this solves the problem for the rear backing plates rotting away in the rust belt. Great job OP. Looks like a very solid setup and fairly easily to do.

Any chance that the conversion kits will come with rock shields for the rotor as a kit option? As small rocks can play hell on rotor and pads if they get in between the rotor and pad assembly. ;-)

From a quick search, it looks like the Tundra rotors are 12.6" diameter and the 4Runner rotors are 12.3" diameter. If you're talking about the calipers, the Tundra front, 4 piston calipers are much larger than the the Mustang rear, single piston caliper.

Here's my brakes for reference. 231mm Tundra up front, Mustang conversion on rear.

There are plenty of threads discussing the difference between drum and disc brakes. I'll just say that's it's personal preference. I prefer the rear disc for ease of maintenance on the brakes, axle bearings, and seals. They're also self-cleaning and don't trap mud.

I think it will depend on your overall brake set-up and what you prefer for the pedal feel. I upgraded my master cylinder, but I also have 231mm Tundra calipers up front and I removed my ABS. I've read of people converting to rear disc with tundra brakes up front, keeping ABS, and not having any issues with the stock master cylinder. There are too many variables to give you a solid answer.

I was wondering why you would want a line lock if you were using a t-case parking brake. That answers my question though. PM me if you need any more info about setting up a t-case brake. I may have some parts from my old set-up as well if you need them.

I have a 4WheelUnderground rear 4-link on my 4Runner and the travel is not limited by the parking brake cables. There will be plenty of cable length for most rear suspension configurations.

Add me to list if you've not filled up the first 10 yet.

Edit: with parking brake kit

The only way to know for sure would be to test braking distance before and after install, which I have not done. So I can't give you any factual, tested information.

I don't have any plans to provide a rock shield. I've heard of rocks getting stuck between backing plates and rotors, but never between pads and rotors. Have you had this happen? The pads are just about touching the rotors. That doesn't leave much room for rocks to get between them.

If only I had money......and a job.

This is great though and it's a boon to the 3rd gen community.

T4R.org as a whole is just a whole different breed of enthusiasts. I'm rather surprised that companies such as Toyota don't get talent (Employees) from these forums.

REAR DISC BRAKES REQUIRE A PROPORTIONING VALVE!!!

People are going to get in bad accidents without a properly adjusted rear brake system... This should be a required part of the kit IMO.

This kit will fit a 1st Gen Tacoma axle. Does your Tacoma have ABS?

The parking brake assembly will work also, but it's a bit different for a Tacoma. I have it set up on my 1st Gen Tacoma using a 4Runner parking brake handle mounted between the seats. PM me and we can discuss it more.

I don't disagree with you; however, I'd love to hear what you have to say about running a proportioning valve on an ABS set-up.

My thought is that the ABS gets it's input from the axle shaft rotation and makes adjustments from there. Rear disc brakes don't change how the ABS system gets its input from the rear axle shaft. In my mind, the system will function as designed.

On my 4Runner, I deleted the ABS system and I do run a manual proportioning valve. But I don't think a proportioning valve is a required item for a kit designed to work with ABS.
