Score at the dealer!
I went to my dealer the other day to pick up my upper radiator hose.
In the course of the conversation, he asks what am I doing to my 4R. I tell him I’m flushing the coolant and replacing the hoses among other things. He then asks, do you need coolant? I tell him I bought the Zerex pink. He then says, I have a bunch of red that I ordered by accident, do you want any? Long story short, I walked out with three gallons of concentrated for 0$. Score!

Out of curiosity, which dealer? I'm in Maine as well and have truthfully never visited a dealership... if I ever do need one, I would rather support a dealership that helps out enthusiasts!

Uh, I think you just took part in a crime. I have a feeling this parts guy had no right to give away product for free. Did he pay for it? I don't think so. The dealership paid for it. Since when does a dealership do anything for free? The concentrate they gave you could have been used by their service department because it's not like they don't work on older Toyotas like ours that use the red or they could have simply SOLD it to customers visiting the parts department.
Don't be surprised if you don't ever see this guy again at the parts department because he's most likely going to get fired over this.

Now that is a score. Sometimes distributors will just write those down to $0 if they have been sitting for a long period of time.
I did once have a less than aware parts guy at a GM dealership sell me a new OEM MAF as a new OEM coolant temperature sensor. That in itself saved me close to $100.

I wish they would mark down their used runners. I love Toyota. If something happens to my 98 4R I’ll be getting a newer used one. But damn if they’re so damn expensive.
Sorry for the derail.

True, been there. The company already got reimburse for old stock. Those write off items HAS to be destroyed by the company.
My friend used to call me to inform me on what nice stuff he is destroying today.

Wow, what a waste. This is interesting to learn. How old does coolant have to be to be too old to sell? No makey no sensey.

Can confirm that this happens. It's done in heavy equipment parts. I've seen parts nearing $3k in value get smashed.
