Replace gear indicator on 96 SR5 2wd automatic

Has anyone replaced the gear indicator on 2wd automatic (96 SR5)? My question really stems from the OD switch embedded in the gear selection handle. I am afraid to pull too hard as I don't want to break the wire. Parts diagrams seem to indicate a connector at the end of the wire but thought it would be good to hear from someone who has already performed this procedure.

no but I need to, here are some pics when I took mine apart, I think the indicator part is just a plastic slide in insert with decal on it.

Thanks, good pictures. The OD wire w/ the male connectors, did you have a special tool to get them out of the connector?

I think you got to de-pin the blue wire, I have a set of de-pinners but they are kinda shitty, a small flat head or a larger sewing needle works for de-pinning.
