4lo and ECT

Does the ECT change the shift points in 4hi and 4lo as well or does it get overridden by the 4wd gearing?

Ect will work completely normal in 4hi. In 4lo there is no real way for it to “work” 4lo is geared so low that you really can’t get out of second gear. First gear is fairly short in these trucks also so the Ecu will shift to second before ect has a real chance to work.

If you don’t mind me asking what spurred the question?

I don’t specifically remember 4 Lo, but in my 99 Auto the ECT button raised the shift points about 200 rpm. That’s it, nothing exciting.
Would be no use in 4 Lo.

Avoid the 1-2 harsh shift in 4Lo...

Not sure about '99s but those horrible 01-02s have the ability to start 4Lo in 2nd gear by simply putting the shifter into 2nd.

That avoids the harsh 1-2 shift that most 4Lo users encounter at about 8-9mph.

Now that's a Useful Feature!

I was just out on some forest trails this weekend and thought about how each of them changes the shift points. Then I started wondering if they could work together or if one cancels the other.

How does that affect your mpg because I heard ECT impacts that a bit.

most of my driving is on gravel roads and hills/mountains so having the higher shift points is nice.
If and when I do hiway driving....more than 10minutes or so then ECT off would actually give you better MPG as it will kick into overdrive sooner
