Wiring an LED rocker switch, how hard can it be?

For those of you familiar with the 2002 4Runner Daytime Running Light (DRL) modification process, I have a question for you.

For reference: 2002 4Runner: DRL Disable With On/Off Capability - YotaTech Forums
I have completed the process where you locate the DRL module in the driver footwell, unplug the plastic connector, locate wire in pin 12 (Yellow/Black), and cut. I have then routed those two wires up to the left of the steering wheel to a LED (3pin) rocker switch. I wanted to make the LED light work, so I ran a wire from the ground pin to ground and....... shorted out multiple cabin fuses including the gauge lights and radio.

What I cannot figure out is why!?!?! I have very little electrical engineering knowledge, but to my understanding, that ground pin on the rocker switch is only grounding the LED light inside the switch to complete the LED light circuit. The switch is interrupting the circuit to the DRL module on the positive side via the Black/Yellow wire. The circuit continues to ground via Pin 2, White/Black for the DRL module.

Please help my feeble brain understand this before I wind up frying more fuses or myself.

Ground goes to ground like you said. Center is power (either from the wire going to the connector for your DRL( from the battery) or straight from the battery, last one furthest from ground is source or in this case your wire going to the headlights from the plug. If that doesn't work I'll need some pictures.

Do you have access to a multimeter? If so, check if the center connections shorts to either side, depending on switch connections. You probably just connected power to ground through the switch when you turned it 'off'. Those lighted switches have common connections for the light and the terminals and don't always work like you expect at first glance.

It sounds like you want to swap the two wires that are not the ground connections, but I can't be 100% sure.
