I'm not going to trust them going forward. I discovered I actually do have one of the affected models and emailed Harbor Freight to see if I could return them since I don't have a receipt.

Even if I can't, I am not using them anymore.

Wow, this was timely. I don't have the HF jackstands, but I have four 6 ton jackstands that are close to 30 years old. So I figured I'll go have a look:

Guess who just ordered a set of the Torin Big Red stands?

Probably the wisest post yet!
When it comes to getting under your rig, best option is to employ 2-3 levels of safety as pointed out by many in this thread.

Yup. I'm not complaining, I got good use out of them obviously. But I'm glad I had a look and noticed the severe wear on the pawl. It's not an area one would notice unless specifically looking for problems, like I did this time.

I took my 2 china freight Jack stands back. Just got gift card as I didnt want replacement ones. Always a good idea to check stand over like leon suggested. The china freight Jack stands maybe junk. However their Daytona jacks ste clones of the snap on Jack. I had one for years and works perfectly. There was even a lawsuit over the mfg of the Daytona Jack as they made the snap on Jack as well.

would it be worthwhile for a moderator to make this a sticky temporarily so those who aren't on regularly see it. They can drop it later when it's had a better chance to warn those who might not notice it when it cycles through the posts?

Might be better to just buy better quality Jack stands from other suppliers. Many others are listed in this thread. ;)

This makes me want to go out and over do it with some of these 22-ton bad boys from ESCO.

https://www.northerntool.com/shop/to...5284_200705284

Think they'd be tall enough, topping out at 20" like they do?

Depends where you put them on the frame 20 inches up not bad. On the a front lower control arms and the back axle 20 inches up. ..;)

I myself, need to just goto 2 lifts and get off the floor completely.. That would make my life easier.

Slightly off topic though. Not a bad idea to goto 22 ton. As thsts the reason I went to 12 ton. Higher ground clearances for my projects.

These 3 Ton Esco stands are worth checking out. Yeah they’re pricey but man are they nice.
Bought a set of 4 from National Tool about 4-5 years ago when they were on sale and I also had $50 gift card.
They have heavy rubber pad on top so no marking your undercarriage and the feet are flat so no digging into the ground or ruining garage floor if it’s coated or covered in tile, etc.
Put them to use today when lifting the rear end to do brakes and rebuild the bellcranks after coating my frame with POR-15.
They are really stable and nicely constructed.

I went to 12 ton Jack stands for more height. I do like those safety pins though. All Jack stands should have some kind of safety pin with them. In my opinion. That is for sharing.

These were my other choice before springing for the Torins, I liked the rubber pads on top and the pads on the bottoms which would not harm the epoxy floor in my garage. My only concern was the limited adjustability with the pins, compared to the ratchet mechanism.

Now I'm second guessing myself .

Leon no need to worry about adjustability vs the Torin Big Reds.
The Torin’s ultimately can be set higher at 24” vs the Esco max height of 21 1/2” but both have numerous settings.
The Esco’s can Be set anywhere from 13 1/2” - 21 1/2” at 1” intervals.
The welds on the Esco’s are impressive and they are very stable, though I’ve never used them at their highest setting.
I have both sets and have to say the Esco are really my go to jack stands as they really are “that nice”.
