Brake rebuild vs Tundra upgrade
Anyone out there have experience with rebuilding their 3rd gen brakes instead of doing the Tundra upgrade and find that fixed the heat deposits/warping? I searched and it just brought up a bunch of 4th gen frozen caliper threads.
I don't really want to deal with wheel fitment issues or spending that much to replace everything when I can rebuild my current calipers (which do have some sticking and uneven pad wear) for <30$.

So you have a limited with 12" rotors right? Heat issues caused the warped rotors.
I'd just get new rotors, I went with StopTech angled vane units, they're directional and cool better as a result when towing, start/stop and downhills.
I don't like drilled rotors, I can feel/hear the holes when braking; slotted on the other hand help with dissipating water during heavy rains.
They fit 16" wheels which is what you've got. Luck deciding....

if you are doing any towing or mountain driving I'd go for the TBU, if you work at it you can do it cheap rebuilding some junkyard calipers, and you probably need new rotors anyway if they are already shuddering like they usually do...that said I don't have any experience trying to rebuild 3rd gen I just know my brakes always sucked and now they are great with the 231mm upgrade (full disclosure I just did it so don't have a lot of miles on them, but so far are great)

Upgrading the calipers will not cool your brakes better if you use cheap rotors. The one advantage the TBU upgrade, regardless of which caliper size you choose, provides is a thicker rotor with a larger center ventilation gap between the two braking surfaces (they use the same rotors, which is why I went with the 199mm S13WE rotors to keep my stock wheels). But if you ride the brakes, it will still generate a bunch of heat. And if you aren’t flushing your brake fluid regularly, the boiling point goes lower and lower as it collects more moisture, making the fluid ineffective and cause fading issues sooner. Everything I’ve read from the experts say to get quality rotors either way to slow down heat build up due to better metal composition.

Agree with that also, I went OEM rotors for that reason. They are solid and worth the cost. Bedding the pads properly helps a lot also.

I went TBU cause I drive lots of mountains etc thus with an automatic have to hit the brake pedal alot. It did make a big difference. If I was a flat lander mall crusiser and not doing any towing then the standard brakes are fine....my opinion

You have Tundra brakes listed as “Want to buy” in your signature.
Depending on your wheels you can go 199 or 231.
For about $500 you can go to any auto parts store and buy pads, rotors, and calipers for a 2005 V8 Tundra (231mm) and be done with all that. With the Tundra brakes you don’t need fancy stuff. House brand will work fine.
If you want fancy get a can of high temp red paint and paint the calipers.
Buy once cry once.

Both WE and WL kits are available here for less than $300 if you have the cores to return. Otherwise, just you just have to eat the core charge (an additional $60 - $70 depending on which kit you get),

If you browse for just the calipers on Rock Auto you can get brand-new aftermarket 13WL calipers, not remans
