Nope not rotten eggs. Maybe more like the smell of metal polish in a way. You can't breathe too much of it or you feel like you're damaging your lungs (at least that's how it makes me feel) or best case scenario get high.

Some googling leads me to believe it could be fuel filter related so I'm going to replace that asap. No matter what I'm sure it needs to be replaced.

My factory speakers are actually still in good shape, I'm not in a rush to replace them, yet..

That being said, I also installed an 8-in subwoofer under the driver seat:

The sub really rounds out the bottom end, and my Pioneer Bt4200 has a loudness feature that almost obviates the need for a subwoofer.

Hey everybody, just bought a 2000 T4R Limited and am excited to join the community. Have only done a few minor things so far: new nokian outpost tires (road force balance was NEEDED and made a huge difference with shaking at higher speeds), replacing rear hood struts as soon as they come in, and will be doing front brakes and rotors with akebono pads and centric rotors.

No big plans for it yet, but feel free to send any tips for upgrades that made a huge improvement over stock. Only has 109k miles with mint factory paint and I'm amped to see where it takes me.

Welcome to the forum. The two biggest failure points are the transmission cooler located in the radiator and the lower ball joints. When either of those fail it gets very expensive.

If your radiator plastic is brown or the coolant looks gross then I would suggest replacing your radiator and radiator cap. Generally recommended service interval for an OEM/Denso radiator is 10 years/100k miles. When the transmission cooler in the radiator fails it causes coolant to get into your transmission and ruins the transmission unless caught very quickly.

If you don't know when the lower ball joints were replaced (if they have been replaced) then I would recommend replacing the lower ball joints and lower ball joint bolts with OEM only. To accurately check your lower ball joints for wear is a whole procedure and requires a dial indicator. It's easier just to err on the side of caution and replace them if they are old or unknown. Generally recommended service interval is 10 years/100k miles. Timing belt should also be checked/replaced around 100k miles. You can pull the 10mm bolts out of the upper timing cover to look at your timing belt condition. If it's cracked then it's time for a replacement timing belt/bearings/water pump/thermostat.

I just purchased a 1997 4runner and the previous owner replaced the trans with a used one and the trans did not shift. the gear will not engage at all. I open the pan and the #1 solenoid was not functioning after testing. I replaced and stile not engaging. what els can it be? please help.

I am restoring a 1996 toyota 4 runner limited 4wd and I want to put a front bumper on it but I don't want it to be a full bumper just a half bumper with a winch mount. This is my first car and I just turned 14 and I don't really know what to do.

Check amayama.com, partsouq.com, and parts.Toyota.com as well for pricing. Amayama and partsouq are overseas so shipping takes longer but they usually are cheaper even with shipping in my experience.

Does anyone know what could cause it to not start as strong when doing a warm start? Cold start it fires up and sounds strong, but after getting to temp and letting sit for a few minutes and restarting it doesn't start as strong. Takes about the same amount of time to start and doesn't require multiple tries or anything, just kind of stutters a little bit but runs just fine after. Fuel pump issue?

My old 2000 tacoma did the same thing but never looked into it.

I purchased the Sony HU from crutchfield, and it included an metra adapter harness with instructions. Installation involved splicing 14 wires between the 16 pin sony connector and the two toyota connectors. I did the best i could to forge a good connection but it just looks kinda jury rigged and half assed.

So im thinking i might try either making my own harness and copy the pin assignments OR just buy a plug and play complete and be done with it. It sounds like it’s coming from the passenger side but I can’t tell for sure. I also previously had a code for a lean air/fuel ratio however I replaced a vacuum hose about 800 miles ago and the code hasn’t returned since so I don’t think it’s from a vacuum leak.

Any ideas?

Does it do it just idling or revving in park? Does it have to be moving?
