So I just scored a 1999. One original owner with 211000 on the clock. No accidents, no stories and very lucky. I paid $4900 for it and stoked. Pick it up tomrrow. Florida truck, no issues at all I have never seen a 24 year old truck in such great shape.

01-02 4Runner brake question
Hi I am new here and don’t know if this is the right place to ask this, but I have searched everywhere and can’t find anyone with the same issue as me.
So I have an 02 4Runner sport 4x4. I have owned it since February of this year and since then I have had an issue with brakes. (I know 01-02 brake master abs/vsc/trac system sucks) The thing is the truck feels like it has bad warped brakes 95% of the time. I have done the front pads/rotors twice and changed the rear shoes and drums once.
I have pretty much ruled out anything being warped since I have changed them and it doesn’t fix the problem. Another reason I say it’s nothing warped is sometimes when you stop it stops perfectly smooth no pulsating. When is does pulsate there is no pulsing feeling in the pedal no shaking in the steering just feels like the brakes are being applied and let off repeatedly (mimicking warped rotors).
So my question is has anyone heard of/had an issue with the master cylinder causing, what I am assuming is the rear brakes, to pulsate. I have looked everywhere online and the issues I read people have with the master loosing brake feel or making screeching noises I do not have. Just an almost constant pulsing.
I know that was long winded and I am sorry I just want to give as much info as I can. Any info would be appreciated and I thank you all in advance.

Going to pickup some black wheels for it, any suggestions on good places to look ?
If so, please shoot me a private message. Picking it up a 1 today.
Thanks

Pull the parking brake while driving at different speeds (keep the release button depressed). If you feel the shaking/vibrating then it's your rear brakes. I would suspect either out of round drums or possibly a leaking axle seal causing gear oil to contaminate the rear shoes/drums.

Need pics, and depends on location, but $12k+ is not unreasonable depending on model, specs, maintenance, and condition

Hey all
I bought a 1999 4runner limited a few moths ago and recently have started to have issues starting it. When I put the key in and turn it, so all the electrical stuff turns on every thing works just fine. Head lights are nice and bright. But when I go to start it it doesn't turn over. You can hear a click which I think is from the relay but nothing happens after. Eventually if I try to start it enough times it will turn over but it has been getting worse.
I have been doing research into the issues and think I need to replace the contacts and plunger but sadly the starter looks like it has been replace before. The starter on the truck is a Wilson 91-29-5291. Should I just buy a new starter?

Your starter probably needs to be rebuilt, the contacts are worn which is pretty common. Google that, Timmy the tool Man has a rebuild video on starters but I'm not sure I would bother rebuilding an aftermarket starter, if you can't get an oem one then buy a replacement, like DB Electrical off Amazon, until you can score a Denso starter and rebuild it

If you end up needing a starter, I have an aftermarket 1.4 KW starter that I recently replaced with a 1.8 KW starter. It has fairly low miles and was working perfectly, I only replaced it because I wanted the 1.8 KW.
I was going to throw it out, but I prefer to have it go to a good home rather than a landfill. Just let me know if you want it.

Ok, thanks for the info. Hopefully I can score a Denso starter and then hopefully it will fix my issue

Thank you for the offer but I would need the 1.8 KW as I live in Alberta and I think the 1.8 KW starter is better in the cold
What stater did you choose to replace your old one with?

Having some issues with my newly engine swapped 4runner. It seems to be running very rich, there's a lot of smoke coming from the tailpipe that smells very gassy and I got a P0171 code. The truck was sitting for over a year and I have been driving it with old gas, could that be the cause? I diluted it with a half tank of 91 after it threw a code, I'll drive it more tomorrow and see if that helped at all.
I am also getting very high idle on a cold start, it's almost 2000 RPM in park.

Probably a lot to consider doing
Start with cleaning the MAF and TB well. High idle may be IAC related... or not.
Check for vacuum leaks,. especially around the ribbed rubber intake tubing, those crack in hidden places.
Run a fuel system cleaner, like seafoam, I wouldn't be surprised if you've got a/some sticky injector/s.
Check and monitor coolant level. These engines tend to seep after sitting a long while, especially 96-98 model years with composite head gaskets

Thanks for the tips! I replaced nearly all of the larger diameter hoses, the intake tubing and cinched up the clamps tight when I swapped and refreshed the engine so hopefully they aren't leaking already.
I'll definitely deep clean the MAF/TB, the MAF for sure is dirty, I think it may even be oily from the last motor. I'll pick up some MAF cleaner and deep clean it before I start the truck again. I also noticed I somehow missed one lower intake nut at the very rear of the engine when I was putting it back together, and I think I recall the air assist T hoses feeling slightly oversized when I installed them, I'll end up taking the upper/lower intake manifolds off again to get access to those hoses and pick up a foot of some properly sized vacuum tubing. You wouldn't happen to know offhand the tubing diameter would you? I'll take a look at coolant, but it doesn't smell like coolant, and the motor I swapped in is a 1999 with the MLS gasket.
If these simple fixes don't help I'll have to see if I can borrow a smoke machine.

New here - Are the headlights low beams and high beams the same bulb?
Hello everyone, new to the game around here. I bought my 3rd gen a little more than a year ago, and recently my headlights seem to be dimmer than they used to be, and it’s hard to see at night. I am looking into getting led bulbs that can replace my halogens I have now. My big question is, do I need to buy 2 sets of bulbs or just one set? I’m not sure if the DRL,s, low beams, and high beams are all the same bulb, so if I just replace the one bulb, will it cover all DRL, LB, HB functions just with that one bulb?
Thanks to anyone who can help with this, I really appreciate it.
Technically I could just go take apart my headlights but I’m hoping someone knows off the top of their head lol.
