My stock headlight housings are starting to peel the chrome part of the reflector so it's time for a replacement. I'd like to upgrade to some projector housings, but I really don't have the time to DIY it myself. Does anyone have any recommendations for projector headlights that are good quality and will arrive in a reasonable amount of time. I'd really like some black housings, but beggars can't be choosers. I don't want to wait the 1 year plus for BXBuilt headlights of questionable quality either. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Can anybody confirm that the part number 90099-04449 is the number for the two bolts that hold the starter in place? I thought the top bolt might be longer than the bottom bolt, but would like to get some reassurance before I buy 2 of them.

If I was considering adding a supercharger, what would be considered "bare minimum" for good compression? Everyone always mentions to check for compression if you're high mileage but I never see any figures mentioned on where to draw the line. I got some extra money and it's incredibly hard to resist

Ask on the 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread.

Just saw a post from a friend, but BX is done now. Their ig page has been deleted and nothing can be found about them on that platform. My friend went back to his stock headlights, which says a lot I think. Just wanted to add this.

Yeah I've been wanting to do the same thing to mine just haven't gotten around to it. BX built has some really nice ones but after checking it seems like their website isn't up and working correctly. However, SQR Fabrications have some nice ones as well as Optoffroad also known as TEQ customs. Don't know how much you looking to sink into headlights but I would recommend going with TEQ. Their prices are little better and they have it set up so you can go through and spec out your headlight to exactly the way you want it. WARNING: it gets stupid expensive in a hurry if you make them really fancy.

I don't think Opt Offroad and TEQ Customs are the same company. Opt Offroad is in Joshua Tree, CA and TEQ Customs is in Raleigh, NC. Regardless, I will be going with TEQ Customs when I have the money saved for headlights. TEQ offered to help make things right to bxbuilt customers that got shafted by offering a discount to them. It wasn't their mess so it's nice to see them stepping up to help those that bxbuilt ripped off.

Yep, Opt-Offroad is a reliable distributer that works directly with a bunch of cool fab shops. If you need to part with extra money on parts you didn't know you needed, I'd recommend a visit to their site. Case in point: HD Billet Steering Rack Clamp

You are exactly correct. My mistake! They are indeed two different companies. Why exactly did BX shut down? Anybody? They had some really cool stuff but I guess I'll be heading to TEQ now.

Opt is Jason Harbert, he's a good guy.

BX is gone, and good riddance..their stuff was junky.

Regarding the question of peeling trim, just heat the headlights like you were gonna install projectors, open the glass and peel all that crap out and seal them back up.

You can follow any retrofit thread on how to heat them and seal them, it's easy.

back up camera

so my 4runner has a kenwood double dinn with a back up camera. One chanel has died,,,so no speakers on driver side, front or back. I checked the wiring.

the back up camera has a RCA type plug and a wire.

are back up cameras interchangeable cause if I replace my head unit, it would be nice not to have to tear apart the rest of the rig to replace the camera and wires

Diagnosing a 4wd issue and ABS/braking

Hey Folks, after some long fought battles I have run out of options on trying to diagnose an issue I am having with "Tootsie" my 2001 SR5 4runner. Driving in 2wd is no issue but when engaged in 4wd with multimode button on the 4wd yoke or shifting into 4Lo and trying to drive forward and reverse my Trac light comes on and instantly drops power with a rutting noise like I'm on ice. I have videos of this issue just no idea how to post them as of yet. Remedies already tried were VSC/TRAC module replacement, gear oil changes to all diffs/ T-case, greasing all of the U-joints and slip yokes on driveshaft and using a OBDII on the car while driving with nothing out of place to see if anything comes of that. No luck - apart from dropping the T case and front diff is there something i am missing that could be the issue.

Secondly the braking issue I am also having is an the ABS kicking on while braking at very low speed but never a code thrown while the issue was happening. For that i replaced the brake booster and no luck. next step for that was checking ABS sensors but don't feel like going after ABS tone rings until I press out for bearing replacement and Manual Hub Conversion but if it has to happen it might as well be when I'm tackling the ABS issue and get it all done at once when I have a direction of where to start.

Thanks for reading this and helping in anyway if you can, I use this forum as my bible which helps me to figuring this stuff out on my own since I'm planning to frame swap eventually once all the gremlins have been chased out of this neglected old girl. I got this truck to drive and revive which then turned into a project for my 5 month old son so luckily I have 16 years to figure it out but I still daily this baby.

Yes, cameras can be interchangeable so long as the connectors match. There are definitely many options for head units with RCA camera connections. I recommend trying to find pictures of the connections for the units you're interested in, or figure out some other way to verify. Crutchfield has several good options and usually has pictures of everything, they can at least get you started on the right path.

Your ABS ecu is engaging the ABS solenoid valves because it thinks your wheels are locked up. The sensors are magenetic hall effect sensors so I'd pull them out and clean off the metal shavings stuck to the tip. This should be a five min job/corner.

Let us know if this works!
