Bought a 1999 SR5 last week. Diagnosing front end steering tracking problems and clunks over bumps today and came across the part number on my front strut. I’ve been curious if these are the stock struts or not as the front end looks taller-ish than others I’ve seen, and Google isn’t giving me anything so I’m asking y’all’s help. On the shock body, behind the coil it says from top to bottom “315, warning do not heat or open, install this end down, made in USA PO31L1D” I actually can’t tell if the O is a zero or not but neither turn up on Google. The shock is blue. Can anyone help me identify it?

I used a Sachs flywheel, ordered it with an Aisin clutch kit, same one Durk linked to you. I have no regrets.

I used a NAPA. It was smooth as silk from Day 1. And Day 1 was 2006 140k miles ago. I have heard NAPA switched suppliers but I can't confirm that.

One thing you should do is change your shift seats. It makes a world of difference. Your old ones will probably fall to pieces if they have not been done.

Since the 99 Tall coils are meant for a 4wd, if I put them on my 2001 2wd would the front end possibly end up higher than the back since there's less front weight on the 2wd? I'm guessing the 4wd coils are a little stronger/stiffer to accommodate more weight?
If you think that could happen, do you think it would be enough to be obvious at a glance?
This is just a daily driver, no real offroading. Just a few light camping trips per year.

And if anyone has actually used the 99 Talls on a 2wd, please chime in and let me know if you encountered any problems with the install or later on. I've found others asking about it on these forums, but can't find any posts after they did it. Thanks!

I just ordered some 17x7.5 inch Toyota steel wheels off ebay for daily use and to replace the spare (17 Inch 6 on 5.5 Steel Wheel Fits Tundra Sequoia Land Cruiser X42768 T | eBay). I know I need acorn bulge style nuts, but I'm not sure if I can use normal ones (ACORN BULGE LUG NUTS - 12MM X 1.5 (VARIOUS QUANTITIES)) or if I can use the extended thread type (Chrome Acorn E/T Ultra Style Conical Lug Nut, 12mm x 1.5 (Various Quantities)). Does anyone have any experience with this?

ive got a 99 v6. does anyone know if the studs on the exhaust manifolds are the same as the studs used in the collectors/crossover pipe?

also, is it a good idea to replace them if they came out with the nuts?

I have a 3rd gen 3.l diesel surf which shorted out while driving. Positive battery clamp broke and touched the hood. Repaired the harness as best as I could had to run a new wire from the starter to the key switch. It starts however switches off as soon as it is placed in gear. It will start in park or neutral but the moment you put it in reverse or drive the engine immediately switches off.

if that's motor oil then based on the location it's probably rear main seal or the oil pan. it could even be just accumulated mess from regular oil changes or a leaky oil filter.

if it's not motor oil, then the type of fluid will tell you exactly whats leaking (tranny fluid, power steering, etc.). It all looks pretty much the same once it's dirty.

Thank you. Yeah I'll give it a clean off and see what accumulates. I need to pass an out of province inspection, hoping a good de-grease and clean does the job.

Hey guys,

quick question here. How can I tell the gear ratio of my 3rd member when it is out of the truck? I have a e-locker rear end I got a month ago and I am trying to figure out what gear ratio it is. Since its a auto 1998 4runner it came off it's most likely a 4.30 ratio but I want to make sure it is or isn't. Obviously it's not on a truck or anything so I can't do the driveshaft wheel spin test. I currently have the 3rd member out of the housing, would I just count the teeth on the ring gear a certain way?
