I'm sorry to hear that happened. Being I have the few tools I'd need and a like for puzzles...were it mine, in otherwise good shape and maintained, and that's all the damages I'd figure out what was damaged and put it back together using junkyard parts wherever feasible. It'd be super-nice if they at least didn't cut any wires.
Cool thing about a self-serve junkyard is being able to take something apart and gaining some insight as to how it goes together, and there's info online to help.

Pacific Northwest: 2001 Limited available as project car
If there is a better place to post please LMK. New here.
My beloved, handsome, 2001 T4R Limited with around 300K miles has encountered a serious seeming engine issue (got loud, lost a lot of power, 1 valve cover came off) and I haven't been able to spend any time even looking into it. Probably needs an engine swap or at least overhaul. I am realizing I am in the wrong stage of life for a project car, so it is just sitting there unused. I am hoping to rehome my 4Runner buddy.
Anybody around Washington/Oregon looking for a project vehicle? The engine can start (or at least it could a month ago when I tried) but I wouldn't dare drive it. Probably needs to be trailered to your home base. I am near Maple Valley, Washington.

Ancient post but the update:
The compression was fine - it was a coolant leak issue and I did end up getting another engine swapped in with 118k miles on it. Running strong now.

Hi - wanted to see if one of the admins could reach out to let me know why I'm unable to create a post/thread on either the 3rd Gen forum or the marketplace forum? Not sure what I did or didn't do on my acct that inhibits me from posting? Thanks in advance!

It's always been new members or even older members have to have 15 posts before they can start a topic or send an PM, this is done to reduce the amount of SPAMMERS from posting tons of spam.
You can reply to a bunch of topics to get your count up rather quickly.

Weird random no start issue
Hi guys,
Wanted to see if any of y'all had some input or any helpful info for a strange issue I had a couple days ago. So this Wednesday I went off roading in the morning and everything was fine. Aired back up and hit the road home to grab some things before I headed out for some bicycle related stuff with a buddy. So I drove out there its about 1 hour away and then I was parked for a good 4 ish hours then after I went back out to leave and I tried to start my truck up and it cranked then tried to start and then sputtered and then just stopped. Tried a second time, same thing. 3rd time I had to give the gas pedal a little touch to convince it to start and then it started this time. Once it started it running as it normally would i didn't notice anything different or wrong. I thought I popped off a vaccum hose or something haha. I did notice that at a stop though the idling was acting kinda strange it was jumping up and down from high 400's to 600's for a little. After that I was at my buds house and I had dinner and went out to see if It would happen again. This was about 3 hours after I got home. Same thing happened. Tried to start it and it did the same thing. Second time again no. So third time I had my buddy with a hammer bang on the gas tank while I started cranking and it then fired right up. Later that night when I left to go home I was fearing the same thing would happen, but no it cranked and fired right up like it always does and runs normal. It's been a couple days since then and I haven't encountered the same random issue again. It's started up normally every time and runs like it always does. This is kinda throwing me for a loop because I am very on top of maintence on my truck and it's strange I would have a random no start issue like this. Very few maintence items haven't been done before besides a couple things. That night I was thinking it was the fuel pump. I haven't replaced that yet. I am also on what I assume to be the original MAF sensor as well. What do you guys think?

I'd suspect a dirty/sticky IAC (idle air controller). If that was stuck in the warm idle position, then it wouldn't allow the engine to start well at a cold(er) engine temp and would cause low/fluctuating idle for at least a while after startup.

Hmm okay interesting. When I did my valve cover gasket job around a year ago now i took the liberty to clean out my throttle body thoroughly as well as I unbolted the IAC from the throttle body and brake cleaned it and cleaned it to the best of my ability. I also cleaned the MAF. But if it's sticking that totally makes sense. It's kind of a weird issue. I was thinking maybe the MAF. What happens is it cranks then starts then just dies right away and does it over and over until it finally starts and then runs just fine. The fluctuating idle was just that one time the first time it happened when I was sitting at a light. If it really is the IAC that's gonna suck cause the only way to buy OEM is from toyota haha. unless I take my chances with a rock auto one. At first I was thinking it was the fuel pump but if it was it would run goofy and just crank and crank. So i don't think it's the fuel pump. So if I cleaned the IAC before would that eliminate the possibility of it sticking / giving me issues? I know it's an original part so at some point it's gotta be replaced. Thanks for your input as always.

Not necessarily. Sometimes "cleaning it" makes it worse, ask me how I know - SOLVED: High idle, increases with coolant temp - IAC?
