3rd Gen 4Runner Lift Information and FAQ's

There are no rear springs between those. You could put 906s on and put a small spacer in there. I have 890s I like the little bit of rake and the spring rate is less than the 906s so they're a little softer and when there's weight in the back it stays level. You may want to consider saying closer to 2" of lift because as you approach 3" you start needing to level your panhard bar, and will need extended bumpstops and extended swaybar links. I thought when I did my lift I wouldn't need those but for me, I wanted a better ride and all these things really helped.

D-C has called it. Once you take apart a 20 year old suspension your budget is likely to go out the window. Unless you like doing jobs twice, now is the time to get things right. I kept the lid down on my suspension refurbish and was still in for about $1200 in parts for my 2000 LTD.

Moog UBJs
OEM LBJs ($108 amazon)
Control arm bushings
5100 shocks
Moog springs
Rubber spacer in the rear to bring it level
Inner/Outer tie rods
Strut Mounts

This equated to about a 2" lift, maybe a tad under, which resulted in just after a few months driving both front inner boots split open and dumped their grease. So you can add roughly $120 to that for a new boot kit.

It was all worth doing. (Disclaimer: only pic on hand, poor truck is filthy. 2" lift means up from where it had sagged down to. I'm probably just a tad over original factory ride height.)

Oh trust me I am 1000 in. 200 more for the springs here in a minute so make that 1200.

5100s front and rear.

I had a 4k cash budget for a dad mobile do these purchases make it nice knowing my rig will be reliable for years to come ����. Only had eyes set on a 4x4 3rd gen 4runner because of my love for my tacoma. Got nine for 2600 with 253k miles with paperwork for a recent timing vent water pump and tensioner pully about 6k miles ago! ��

Awesome. You won't be disappointed with your 3rd Gen. I wouldn't give mine up for anything. One of the few vehicles I've owned where I've been asked multiple times, "Is it for sale?!"

He's had a 1st gen 4x4 Tacoma... I imagine that's an every day experience he has already had.

Haha yeah especially after all the "upgrade" and texas edition wheels. My dad passed and I vowed to revive it. It was his work truck. And when I mean work I mean work. Inside and outside beat to hell. Same for suspension. But you opened my old mans hood and youd be like " tafuq? How is it so clean and shiny" . Haha he took care of the engine like a child.



906's just ordered gonna attempt to get it at 2.5 f , 2"r. Hope it rides good. Anything will be an improvement over these current struts and springs !

Question if anyone can help my rear main seal is leaking. Same for my valve covers. I'm going to fork over the cash to get them both fixed. Any other locations where oil can leak that would drip down to the tranny area that I should check b4 dropping that kind of money on labor?

I'd fix the valve cover leak first, clean up the residual oil from the leak, and drive it for a while before deciding on the rear main leak. You may discover that it isn't leaking enough to repair it. Or at least save it for down the line. Just my $0.02

Actually pieces it together cheaper from the same place I ordered my lbj.

Can someone chime in and see if I ordered correctly

P.s just cleaned up under the tranny area. I dont think it's my rear main seal. Leak comes from way up above most likely the valve cover gaskets and half noon things . Yall are some o.gs knowing all this lol.

I'm doing most of everything myself. But a rear main seal job would be something I wouldn't do due to time and tools.

Order intake manifold gaskets, throttle body gasket, and Idle air controll gasket, pcv valve and grommet.

You’ll tear into most of that doing the valve covers.
