Climate control lights and fan direction not working

I recently changed the lights In my dashboard from green to a yellow ish color and I was going to follow through with the climate control lights but those were a pain in the ass to take out and they broke so I have to buy new ones, but I wired everything back up and the fan speed and temperature control seems to work fine but the air direction does not, can’t change it to defrost or any other setting just the front and top vents, anyone know what could be wrong?

Control arms for 5.5 inch lift

So I have a 1997 limited 4x4 sitting on a 5.5 inch lift, I just recently shot out the bushings in my upper control arms and I’m just wondering if anyone would know the best options for controls arms considering my lift?

There's not even 5.5" of droop travel in the front suspension stock. How are you getting 5.5" of lift? Is it drop bracket lift or something?

I was at the home stretch of an engine rebuild that has been a long time in the making since a shop diagnosed the failed head gasket. 2-3 weeks ago started assembling the engine, from knock sensor valley up, in my garage. My gf and other friend helped me drop it in and I assembled everything.

Now after filling with coolant, there is a good leak at the top and back of the engine, near intake manifold. I have a sinking feeling it's the coolant pipe near knock sensors, which I used fipg really carefully to seal. Does anyone know if there's a coolant line back in that mess I could've forgotten about? There doesn't appear to be a leak at the heater hoses

There are a number of coolant hoses back there (including under throttle body), you might want to double check all those connections and clamps.

Any recommendations for aftermarket headlights?

Hello everyone, I’m wondering if anyone has some recommendations for aftermarket headlights. My current 1998 SR5 doesn’t have high beams when I’m running my night beams (it seems as if my night beams are just my high beams). Since they are high beams, they are very bright and I’ve had a couple cars flash me back. I’ve resulted in just buying a new set of aftermarket headlights because it’s something I’ve wanted to do down the road. I’m looking for a pre-built set of headlights because I’ve heard that building them could get a bit complicated and I’m not the most educated with electrical. I like the look of the SRQ retrofits, but they are a bit pricey. Are there any other websites that sell aftermarket headlights that aren’t $500?

Have new brakes and all hardware associated from MC all the way back, the only thing not brand new are lines, hoses, E cable, rear cylinders and booster. Brakes still fade almost to floor, they do hold but have long travel, and ebrake doesnt lock up the rear. Has new bell cranks and cables tight. Could an adjustment at handle be the issue with ebrake? Dont hear any more clicks from adjuster using the handle. Any ideas of pedal? Have bled A LOT with no air seen but..

If you have drum brakes on the rear and if the shoes aren't adjusted properly that will affect both of your issues!

Howdy everyone,
Just want some opinions on what I should do with my surf. All my LCA bushings are shot. Is it worth replacing all the bushing or should I spend some extra money and upgrade to some nicer ones.

Thanks

Nicer whats - bushings or arms?

It is ALWAYS worth replacing fried bushings.

OEM replacement rubber will work great and perform as Toyota intended.
Front A arms can benefit from poly if trying for max wheel travel
without sacrificing too much ride quality. Whiteline is the way to go.

Rear control arms don't seem to respond as well to poly as the
flex/twist the axle exhibits tends to wallow out the sleeve hole.
But anything is better than whatever condition the originals are in.

Engine Swap Question

Hey all,

Has anyone ever heard of anyone swapping a BMW M57D motor into one of our T4Rs?

Ive heard of tdi swaps and the v8 swaps. And dont get me wrong i know with enough time and money anything is possible. Just wondering if anyones done it in a t4r. The hp/torque numbers from the straight6 inline diesel are pretty desirable to me considering you get supercharged 5vz power from a naturally aspirated motor with loads of torque.

Ive seen people throw them into the 100 series land cruisers but i know thats an overall bigger canvas to work with when it comes to the engine compartment.

Anyone ever seen it done or have any immediate road blocks that wouldnt make it a good idea?

Life Expectancy

So my 2001 is sitting around 270k miles and I'm contemplating if I want to keep investing money into it based on it's life expectancy

The hydraulic master cylinder seems to have gone on it and will need to be replaced which will be roughly $1500-2000, and the rear seals and VCG need to be addressed as well. I've put a lot of new OEM parts into it when the originals have failed as well as a rebuilt transmission.

I had an oil analysis done and everything looked flawless but am thinking about having a shop run a compression/leak down test on the motor to see where it's health is at as it has had one overheat since I have owned it.
The frame is still good as well as the body, but the paint on the front fenders has seen better days.

What would you do in my situation?
Keep and continue to do maintenance on it? Sell?
Or fix the issues now and start saving up for a new vehicle?

Very much in the same situation...
'98 with 270K daily driven, but also my wheeler.

I have committed to keeping it alive until it isn't possible for me.
That would require illness or some other catastrophe.
I've got the tools, the (relative) skill, and the means to maintain
and put some other higher zoot goodies into it.

Given the world's boner for anything remotely old & cool,
I don't feel like starting over with another vehicle that will
cost way more than it's worth just to do the same thing.

Will it be my daily forever? Realistically - no. I will end up biasing
it toward offroad ability, but I have no plans or desire to sell it.
So a lil commuter of some sort is likely on the horizon sometime.

It brings me joy to create my own version of a 3rd Gen.
Will it be frustrating? Occasionally.
Will it be expensive? Probably.
Will it be worth it? Absolutely.
