Fan and Blower Motor Issues

New here! I have a 99' that has a crackling, fluttering sound under or around the glove box when I reach higher speeds greater than 40 MPH. I thought it was the rear fan, but it is not.

I am also dealing with the issue of barely any air coming out of my vents regardless of how high the air is on. I have ordered a new blower motor hoping that will fix that issue.

Finally, when I turn my air on to anything medium or higher, the loudest noises, sounding like a vacuum start going on and it is way too loud. Any thoughts or ideas on this?

Have you pulled your blower to see if the cage is simply full of stuff? I don't know about the 40mph part, but the rest fits well enough to check.

I have not done it yet, I was going to wait for the replacement to get here and do it all at once and if I don't need the replacement, I would just return it. I will look into that though because it might be as simple as that. Its just so loud for no reason.

There's definitely a reason for the noise and low airflow, you just haven't found the issue yet

Arrow Choosing between Dobinsons or OMEs as a 2-3 inch lift kit.

Hey guys, since this is a 3rd gen questions thread I though I might look for advice and suggestions here. I'm kind new to all this off roading and building rigs, so I'm pretty much starting with a "budget" (though that doesn't mean I necessarily want the cheapest) build on my '97 4Runner Limited. My dad bought it brand-new so it's been in my family for its whole life. I currently have Bilsteins on it (though I don't know the model) for stock height. I plan to build it into a light overlander/camper truck that's also comfortable for as a daily driver on the streets.

I'm saving up for suspension mods with a lift kit and anti-sway bars. For the lift kit I've been contemplating between the Dobinson's DSSKIT875 - DSSKIT875 kit which is 2-3 inches, and the Old Man Emu 1″FR, 2-3″RR Lift Kit. For anti-sway bars I've only found ones from Addco for the front and rear.

I'm looking for y'all's thoughts between Dobinson and OMEs since I know they're people's go-to besides Bilstein. I'm also concerned with the overall fitment of the lift, I guess, since the suspension tuning compensates for more weight on the front and rear for bumpers and stuff, and I want it to be a level 2-3 inches.

I do plan to get the Gobi roof rack and ladder, a Thule 2 bike rack, and a front bumper (maybe skid plate), so I do want the suspension tuned for that extra weight.

I'm curious which one may be better, and how to properly choose the shock settings for a 2.5" lift. And if you guys have any suspension suggestions (especially with what I plan to do with the car) I'm all ears. I also challenge y'all to find front and rear anti-sway bars because I can't seem to find anything else other than the Addco ones; maybe I'm looking in the wrong places or not hard enough.

P.S. If you read through all of that yap, thank you so much.

Tundra suspension for 3rd gen 4runner

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew about using the 1st Gen Tundra 2000-2006 suspension for a 3rd Gen 4runner and how much it would lift/change. I was interested in the stock TRD coil overs with the progressive rate coil that the TRDs came with during that era. If anyone knows about just the regular package struts that would be super helpful too. I see people just swap the tophat off of the old strut on the 4runner and I would probably do that. I would also then just put different rear struts and coils to match but I would try to use a 3rd gen specific but if anyone knows about anything else let me know. I was hoping for about 2 inches of lift maximum.

What specifically do you want to know? I still have the front end of my SS 1.2 which has exactly that, but I swapped out my rear setup for something totally different.

I was just curious if I were to put the TRD coil overs on the 4runner about how much lift would I get? It seems like people use the Bilstein 5100 for a 00-06 tundra and the TRD coils and they can get about 2 inches on the lowest setting. I was just wondering if I kept the stock shock and coil how much it would give me. I like the idea of the progressive rate coil people say they ride nice. I have seen on youtube someone just use regular coilovers from a tundra and get like an inch and a half or so.

Generally about 2-2.5 inches on the lowest perch, the thing is if you lift the spring up a few perches you're going to create such a harsh angle for your axle, bind your CV's and more than likely yield a really harsh ride quality. They work well when paired with the 5100's, which is what I've got and have had on my truck for almost 11 years. They're still holding up just fine.

Sonoran Steel, it's a company that uses the Tundra springs and other Toyota parts for complete suspension kits.

I'll check it out there is a part truck right near me from a fairly low mile 1st gen tundra TRD package you think I could reuse that truck's front coilovers and just put that on with my old tophat? and not get the 5100s? I would then get rear coil spring to match the front. I did a little more research and a guy used a tundra struts on his 3rd gen that are non-TRD and it gave him like 1.5 inches so might give it a shot. seems like a lot of ppl like the tundra suspension idk

CV axle joint rebuild

I know many of us have rebooted our OEM CV axles but has anyone replaced the inboard tripod joint? My CV boots were ripped when I bought the truck in February of 2024 and at 319k miles I figure that the joints likely are compromised. I can’t find a straight answer anywhere online or in the forum and was wondering if anyone else has gone down this route.

What is the correct Screws needed to hold the rear windshield wiper?

Last time it rained like 3 weeks ago I was at a stop light i switched on my rear wiper only for it to fall off.
