The rabbit hole known as 3rd gen 4Runner ownership lol Every bushing on these vehicles is old enough to vote and most are old enough to drink. I constantly find myself doing the "might as well replace this while I'm there" all the time lol

I got a quote from my guy for $105 each side, $210 total for labor to do Lower ball joints. OEM Parts are 107.32 each, $214+$27 shipping, so $241. I am sure I can figure out how to do it, but for piece of mind I will pay the additional $210.

That's reasonable for labor. I'd make sure you get OEM lower ball joint bolts as well. I would also recommend getting a front end alignment after

Yes sir. ordered the OEM parts, and are on the way! I am also doing the suspension, so after that and the LBJ, I will get a full four wheel alignment.
Thanks for all your help.

Just so you are aware, there is no alignment adjustment for the rear of the vehicle unless you get adjustable rear suspension links. In other words, if there is a price difference between front end alignment and 4 wheel alignment then just get the front end alignment.
Also, the lower ball joint bolts have different torque values depending on which bolt you use. 90080-10066 is 59 lb/ft (does not work with the lower ball joint cover/protector thing that 01-02 come with from the factory) and 90119-10933 is 37 lb/ft. Not trying to hound you. Just want to make sure you've got everything you need for the best results.

Any recommendations for a clutch and flywheel? I've heard good reviews about Marlin HD clutch, but their flywheels seem to be hit or miss on quality. Some people have had poorly cut flywheel teeth. Also considering LCE Performance pro clutch/flywheel bundle 5VZ 10" Pro Clutch + Flywheel Bundle Kit. Anyone have any experience with either of those? Anyone using a heavier flywheel? I'm not a high speed hotshot or drive with a lead foot so I'm wondering if a heavier flywheel would help with uphill starts and off-roading.

thanks for the heads up. I was thinking of my F150, which is 4WD. so saves me some $$$.
I will pass the torque specs on to my guy.

I remember seeing someone say the marlin flywheel is just a luk flywheel that’s known for having out of spec teeth. I haven’t heard anything bad about the LCE flywheels but I’d worry a heavier one would make the vehicle feel sluggish when driving, hill starts are super easy in the 4Runner to begin with.
Another good option is to get a decent condition used oem flywheel from eBay or a junkyard and have it resurfaced at a shop, I did that on mine and it turned out great and cost under $75

If you don't live in a dust bowl, then no snorkel.

Wow, that’s one heck of a deal! Sounds like you’re basically getting assembly for free with that combo. For example, srq has 5100 with 880 here for $647! 4Runner Bilstein 5100 Front Shocks Pair (96-02 ) | SRQ Fabrications

I remember reading some posts from a few years ago saying the same thing about Marlin flywheels being LUK. There was a photo showing how bad the teeth were on one of the LUK flywheels but that may have been on a different forum I can’t remember. OEM flywheel is 28 lbs and LCE has 30 lbs and 38 lbs flywheel options. That’s a good idea on buying a used OEM and getting it resurfaced ahead of time. Any idea if parts stores do that kind of thing? I might have to call a transmission shop to get a reference.

I have the strawberry milkshake curse of the coolant in my transmission vice versa, it is everywhere. In the transmission in all the coolant lines.
my transmission is slipping and engine is overheating. my thoughts are I'll be towing it to anywhere I need in my small town.
Picture strawberry milkshake grossness that is terrible for transmissions and terrible for the rubber hoses for your coolant. I'm asking for a possible plan of attack. the fluid wipes any adhesives on the gears although I hear Dr.Tranny has helped people with slippery dics.
variables:
1 vehicle might run for a short distance but im planning to tow it.
2lube guy wants me to replace the radiator before he does the flushes
3im more or less accepted that my transmission is ruined but open to thoughts
4my vehicle is parked by my house on the road
5If I change my radiator he does the flushes does he leave my radiator empty so I replace the hoses?
Thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers and questions. Especially the prayers
