Rear Shock Removal Woes

Hey guys

I thought I was prepared for this but I'm having a hell of a time removing the top nut of the rear passenger side shock.

Unless I'm turning the wrong way LOL it won't budge.
I've waisted half a day. I've heard some people just cut them?

Is it a good idea and where is the best place to cut?

Top of the shock stem has I believe a 6mm allen insert, then the nut is easier to get with an offset box wrench, which is 17mm I believe. It's a pain in the ass and a stupid design.

I got mine off by cursing, partially cutting and twisting the rest of the way off!

For factory shocks big vice grips on the metal guard bell to hold thing from turning, then a box end wrench up top and hating life.
If that don’t work then a saw-z-all to the shock stem right below the shock mount works.

The sawzaw literally takes less than a minute to remove each rear shock. I don’t even waste my time anymore with the nut. Just cut it off.....

Then clean out the cups and oil or rust prep them real good.

I'm off to Harbor Freight to get a saw.
My back is killing me this morning, don't want to spend extra time crawling around under Big Bertha...

I used saw zall, cutting wheels and cutting torches. Now use plasma. Always faster to cut out then try to remove..
