Manual transmission donor 4runner

Hey all-

I am looking to upgrade my 4WD open diff 4runner to a locked diff. I have had 0 luck in the junk yards here in PHX, but I did just saw a locked 4runner come on the classifieds in my price range, but it is a manual transmission.

I am looking to swap the axles front and rear and harvest the CVs so I can have some spares. Everything else will just be cosmetic upgrades if the seats are better condition and what not.

is there anything to consider with using a MT donor vehicle? Aside from I cannot use anything transmission related.

The e-locker works the same on all 4Runners, no difference between the MT and AT.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I figured the lockers worked about the same, but I wanted to make were there wasnt anything to watch out for on the axle for mounting the rear brake lines or ABS or something to that effect.

Aside from that, what else from a donor parts car perspective who I not be able to use? or is the real only difference a MT is subbed in for an AT and most every thing else should be the same between the 2 models.

the donor is a 96 MT and I have a 97 AT.

The ecu, wiring harnesses, driveshafts, brake pedal, center console trim, are all different. I think the transfer case on the auto has an extra plug that the manual doesn’t have.

That should be everything, all that stuff plus the transmission would be worth some decent money to anyone wanting to do a swap and could cover the cost of your donor vehicle

Keep in mind the diff ratios. I believe the manual and auto are different. This may be ok for you if you swap both front and rear.

Something to double check anyway.

I know the locked diff had a different ratio, but not sure about the Manuals w/ locker, but either way I was going to harvest the front and rear diffs and get them geared to 4.88s before transplanting.

Sadly the 4runner sold in under an hour even though I responded within 20 minutes. The hunt continues...

Keep in mind what the parts you aren't gonna be using are worth. Should've snapped it up because a good automatic is worth like $200 tops. Complete 5 speed swaps are getting spendy. I've seen up to $800.

The manual ecu alone often goes for $300+, I tried for the longest time to find an entire donor vehicle for my swap and they were all gone within hours of being posted unless they were way overpriced
