water in drivers footwell after hard rain

Truck has been sitting for 1+ years waiting for me to get the water pump fixed. Finally have the time and money, but when I went in to get started the drivers side footwell was squishy with water. We had just had a hard rain.

I have no idea where to even start looking. Hoping someone here may have experienced same and can point me in right direction?

Check the drains to the sunroof if you have not already. Also, if you've stuffed wires in through the firewall grommet, that can also leak.

Adding to the above suggestions:
If you have a roof rack check the bolts going into the top of the roof, that's where my leak was. Same symptoms, it was creeping down behind the panels/pillars on the driver's side.

or if you have run cables through the firewall cable harness entrance. Water runs right down over it normally, if it's got cracks or has been opened by adding cables, that would be a good to place to look.

were your bolts just loose??? is there some sort of rubber grommet seal under the rack that may also need to be looked at?

All I know was water was somehow coming in through the frontmost hole on the driver's side. There's a little black plastic cover at the front of the rails with the bolt/hole underneath - that was the problem one for me.
I removed the trim from inside the 4runner which would be above your head to the left, above the door. I could see the water trickling down from behind that trim piece and knew which hole was the problem one.
I took all the rails off, squeezed a little glob of silicone in each bolt hole and put it back together.
No leaks since.
