Name of part and other ?'s

fellas, 2000 v6 4 wheel drive Limited owner with 253k on her here. What is the name of the part that goes from the air box to the engine itself? And is it wise to get one off a 97 4R? Reason i'm asking is because right before where the mass air flow sensor is, the black tube is cracked at the top.

Also i am no mechanic by any means, but what little things can I repair/replace on my own and where to buy the parts at. A member suggested that I get a Torque ratchet which will be tomorrow. Oh yeah, should I get the 3/8" or 1/2"? Or both? They're kinda expensive but worth it i guess.

And I know there is always posts about the brake upgrade, so here's another one. I don't tow and if I did it would be something small so with that said, should I get the 199mm or 231mm?

Thanks in advance.

Josh

Here are the parts between the airbox and the engine: TOYOTA 4RUNNERVZN185L-GKPZKA - TOOL-ENGINE-FUEL - AIR CLEANER | Japan Parts EU

Sounds like this is the part you need - 17881-62150 - HOSE, AIR CLEANER, NO.1 1788162150 Genuine Toyota HOSE, AIR CLEANER, NO.1 17881-62150 | eBay

The '97 system is different, you'd have to get the entire assembly, including the MAF. Most folks actually go the other way, convert the early '96-98 intakes to the newer 99+ system, because the MAF is easily replaceable and is much cheaper.

As for TBU, I'd stick with 199mm.

If you don’t tow heavy loads and you don’t do a lot of crazy mountains forget the tundra upgrade. IMO anyway, the stock set up is fine for a stock 4Runner.

Most people go aftermarket parts for the upgrade but I’d keep the old oem hardware any day. Opinions will vary on this issue of course. I’d put oem pads/ shoes on if you need them and forget about it.

Kanoe, the man who had it before me kept meticulous mechanical or should I say maintenance records. And it seemed that he changed the pads and rotors every year. Now I don't think from what I seen in the records the mileage was astronomical. It was just normal 10 to 12 thousand miles. Not saying that you could not need a replacement or change because of the way they drove but he's old man and I'm assuming not hard at all. So I'm in or should I say I am under the belief that he had to change them because of the issue that they say the forerunners have. This is all assumption on my part

There is not an issue with the original oem brakes under normal driving circumstances (in my opinion). I'm all OEM and have had no issues in the 8 years, 100,000 km I have driven. Other than cleaning, lubing and flushing I have not touched the brakes at all. Mine is a 5spd so it is inherently easier on brakes than an auto.

I think a lot of brake issues arise once people start putting aftermarket parts on. If yours are already aftermarket then you might as well do as you like.

5 speed vs auto is different on these front rotors. Mine keep warping no matter what I do on the automatic ones. I dont drive like Mario Andretti either. .;)

Perhaps it's the rolling hills around here. I just cant stand warping rotors though. So i be converting to 199mm Tumdra brakes upgrade to eliminate the issue. 3 to 6 months my rotors start warping.

I completely understand people wanting to keep them stock as that make sense I been going back and forth on this one for a while.
