2001 SR5 no 4wd and code c1207
I'm a new 2001 4Runner owner, having come from a 22re pickup and have been helped greatly by this forum, but so far can't find the answer to my current issue. Since right after I bought it the "VSC off" light has been on. At one point I had the battery disconnected for several hours while I replaced bulbs in the instrument panel and then afterwords the "VSC off" light went off and stayed off for about a week, but is back on now. Recently I was out on some dirt roads, got a hard rain, and pushed the 4wd button to help me negotiate the slippery roads. All I got was the 4 green wheels and orange center differential lights flashing. The truck would not engage 4wd. I am getting a c1207 code which is for the pnp switch. I checked my pop switch with a multimeter and it was fine, though it was covered in engine oil from a previously leaking valve cover gasket. The local UPULLANDPAY had a Tundra with the same part number, so I pulled it and replaced mine, even though mine checked out ok, (Tundra switch also checks out ok). I've still got the "VSC off" light and I've still got no 4wd. Clearing codes seems to do no good as the "VSC off" light comes right back on as soon as I start the truck. I checked the two switches on the transfer case next to the actuator, they both check out fine. I've searched all over for how to fix the 4wd not working and now know about tons of things to check, but I can't help but think that it's related to the "VSC off light" and the c1207 code. Would a problem with the VSC system prevent the truck from engaging 4wd? What do you guys suggest my next step should be? Thanks for your help!
