Lower Control Arm Bushings?

Hey guys, got a 98 SR5 with 184k on it.

Went in and realized i can move by control arm back and forth a bit (hood to trunk direction) with a small pry bar.. so wondering if my bushings are shot, debating doing the whole arms or just the bushings. I have sawzall ready if my cams are seized etc.

The noise (watch short vid) makes sense to me from that because it only does it with wheel cranked hard left and abrupt start stops.

Vehicle is newish to me and im stoked to be a part of the community and have a 3rd gen again! (had one as a teenager).

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

PS: im doing lower ball joints as well so doing these together would be best

YouTube short video of bad sound

I tried removing my lower control arms and broke a cheater bar.

It was worth paying someone else for the pain in the ass. It rides and drives so much better.

Replace the bushings. Soak the ever living crup out of the bolts in your favorite rust breaker stuff (I like a 50/50 mix of atf and acetone). And give it a whirl, make sure you have new cam bolts at the ready unless you have a 2nd car to drive. I also attempted to loosen the bolts before I attacked it to know if I needed to buy cams. So try to loosen the bolt a bit and slightly try to turn the cam bolts.

Or hack them off, toss on some cam eccentric eliminaters and spc upper arms and do all your alignments from the upper arms.

That noise doesn't sound like lower bushing, it sounds like metal on metal, maybe steering stops. But since you KNOW the bushings are bad, you could inform all of US when you change them if that was the noise. the movement may be allowing other components to bind or touch.
As for whether to do bushings or change arms, it is really dependent on your ability, and time. I have 337K on my 99 and have intentions of addressing lower bushings in the next few months. I will most likely do lower ball joints and struts at the same time. I hope to just change bushings to help keep costs down, and I do have other cars to drive so I can afford to have issues and not worry too much.

thanks for the reply!

whats crazy is now the noise has stopped and i cannot duplicate it! It was weird because it only did it with the wheel cranked hard left and abrupt start stops

i just ordered new LBJs from Mcgeorge Toyota and will update what i find when i swap those.

ALSO check out this insanity im considering... Front Complete Strut Pair for 1995-2003 2004 Toyota Tacoma 1996-2002 4Runner | eBay

i wonder if all the reviews or fake or these are actually just decent which im ok with..

^^^^ Most reviews in the AD are not reviews. Its about the shipper... received asap etc.,

Based on the price, it may be a quick alternative, but keep in mind unbranded parts DO NOT last. I had Monroe rear shocks installed in my 97 and it failed 100% in just 16K miles.

I wouldn't even dare swap on those cheap coilovers. Your OEMs probably ride better at that mileage. I would save up for new OEM lower control arms. If you have rust already then removing those old bushings are a waste of time. These jobs are only possible on vehicles that live where it's hot and dry.
