Bilstein 5100’s and OME 880

So I inquired with Toytec today about 5100’s and 880’s due to the website saying only to be used with OME nitrocharger shocks.
They(He) said there have been a lot of failures with the 5100’s and the OME springs and they don’t recommend.
Can I get some feedback from someone who has done this setup and either it works or tell me where the failure has been?
Right now it is mainly a mall crawl but will eventually do some wheeling and want to know what I’m up against. I’d guess that the failures were in full travel or under heavy use. Any insight would be appreciated.
Have stock coils front on 5100
OME 906 and 5100’s in rear (had a spacer I wanted to eliminate)
Looking to get rid of some of the rake and level out.

Bilstein does not honor the warranty when paired with ome . I'am about to do the same setup on mine and in researching came to the understanding that the 5100 shocks have to be set at the lowest perch with any ome springs. Infact bilsteinlifts.com specifically states that.

Which I’m ok with and understand I’d have to keep on lower perch. The toytec guy seemed to not want anything to do with this setup and I just wanted to feel out the crowd so to speak.
He said coils break and shocks break and OME won’t warranty or bilstein. Let me know if you do it and how you like it.

Wheeler's Off Road preassembles 5100S with various OMEs at the lowest perch and sends them out to a customer base that would be here complaining loudly if there was an inherent incompatibility. It's a pretty common combo for 2-2.5" lift. If you don't have or plan a ton of rear weight, 906s are a decent 'medium' spring choice.

Here is one of many threads about this: Why not OME 880/906? Talk me out of it.

What setting are your 5100's on, and what version of the 5100's do you have? You should be able to set the 5100's to be rake-free compared to 906's in the rear on the right setting with factory springs...

what's the reason why the 5100s aren't compatible with ome springs unless the spring perch is in the lowest position?

from what i know, the 5100 doesn't know if the spring is an ome or not. it can only feel the spring load. so it doesn't matter whether the spring is eibach, ome, dobinsons, or any other spring brand. also, the ome springs are known for their tendency to sag faster after sometime compared to the eibach or dobinsons coil springs.

From what I undestand when you move the perch up, essentially preloading the spring. The heavier preload on the springs effects the shock performance and too much can destroy the shock. Bilstein recommends different spring rates for the different height settings to achieve lift. The 880 is rated 500lbs and gives about 1.5 inches 881 is rated the same but is taller gives about 2 inches and 882, 3inches with 200lbs constant. lift coils do the lifting because they are stiffer so 0 setting is recommended, with softer coils like stock you can use the height adjustment.

I've been running 5100s with 880s – purchased, assembled and shipped by Wheelers – for just over 2 years now. No issues whatsoever, with a 90/10 mix of road/offroad driving in that time. Offroad ranging from Forestry roads to moderate trails.

Maybe phone Wheelers and ask if they have any thoughts or concerns with the combo. When I purchased from them and I was new to owning a 4x4, they were super helpful.

It was put in a while back with the 4Runner talls and I had to use a 1.5 spacer in the rear to level, had a rear wheel bearing take out the axle and order a set of the 906’s to eliminate the spacer. Has a bit more rake at the moment than I’d like. Picture not gonna do much justice.
I think the factory spring is in on the second perch. I will lower to perch with the OME.
Also gonna add a shrockworks front bumper. Should I do the 881 with that?

I was on board with the lowest perch scenario but the TOYTEC guy was saying he didn’t recommend, no warranty, yada yada and I wanted to feel out the community

outside of bicycles and coolers for the beach(chairs etc.) not a ton of rear weight, maybe a solid rear bumper down the road
just measured I'm at 23 3/4 in the rear with 906 OME and 21 1/2 in the front on the factory 4runner tall spring measured from hub center

Yes, when running any lift springs, whether it is OME or not, you need to leave the 5100 set to the bottom perch.

Bilsteinlifts.com isn't Bilstein the manufacture, it's just a company that owns that specific domain.

Our 5100/OME is our most common sold lift kit by 20x and have seen no failures when customers keep the shock set to the bottom perch.
