Good afternoon all! I have some 5th gen stock springs (non-TRDPro) coming my way soon, and intend to do the springs and shocks (as well as OTREs, LBJs, and 265 75/r16 tires) at the same time. I'm kicking the idea around of doing the sway bushings as well, but undecided on that right now.

What else should i be doing while I have all four corners i the air? Bump stops maybe? I've never done a lift on a vehicle this old, but have lowered an early 80s VW truck (I should have never sold that thing!).

My rig will spend the majority of its life on concrete, and maybe the occasional trail, but nothing too gnarly. Are Billy 5100's overkill? KYB seems nice for the price, but I don't want to swap it all in just to regret it.

Lastly, shot in the dark, does anyone have pictures of their rig with 5th gen springs and 32's?

You might consider doing steering rack bushings while you're at it.
Made a big difference for me in "on road performance."

I'd look at your tie rods as well.

Should have mentioned that I've done the rack bushings. The outer tie rods are on the list to be done with the LBJs. Shop is saying the rack is bad, but the only leaks I see are left over oil from the leaky valve covers. That said I'll be doing the rack in the future, and no sense buying $150 inner tie rods when a new rack is a little more and comes with them installed.

Yup Check upper lower ball joints I’d go with oem BJ’s I’ve seen a lot of cheap parts store ball joints fail and personally almost had a catastrophe with my whole family in the car. Also check wheel bearings and UCA & LCA BUSHINGS
get an alignment...

OEM lower ball joints. Make sure all other alignment-related parts are in good shape while you are in there.

Here's 265/70-17 (equivalent to 265/75-16) with 4th gen rear springs and 10mm trim packers in the rear. Front is OEM springs on 5100's (up a couple perches, but with bumper/skids), so likely a bit lower than 5th gen springs.

are they saying rack is bad because of a leak, and do you see the leak in loss of fluid. true like you said maybe oil is from old vc leak.
slop in system can be innner tie rods. also the steering rack guide is know to get some slop and people replace with the newer style. MTBT has a video on it I think. ALso there are several threads on it.
sure you can get a rebuilt rack for 150 like shop says....but do research on that too on the forums as some say the rebuilt racks are junk, and many dont come wiht the inner tie rod ends installed....at least thats what Ive read..have not needed one myself

I'd do your CV boots while you are in everything . If they're old they'll rip apart lifting things , IMO .

Ill be checking the UBJs, and have some OEM LBJs in a box with a bunch of other random parts. The bushings are in my sights as well.

Ill keep that in mind. I dont have any shops around me other than a dealership unfortunately. Honestly Ill probably just pay them to do it.
Good call. I'm thinking I should just replace the CVs all together. Ill grab some boots just incase they look pretty bad to hold me over. Never done boots. Need any special tools for the straps?

I'm a big fan of re-booting the OEM CV's , I think they are a far superior product then your average AutoZone etc... CV's . Providing they are in good condition. If you go aftermarket hang onto your OEM's ( this is providing no has changed them out already )
Boots aren't hard to do , YouTube is your buddy there .
