Correct but did you try adjusting the rear brakes using your parking brake lever (pulling it up repeatedly)? It doesn't seem to do any adjusting the way it does for 96-00.

I did not as once I installed and adjusted the new shoes there was no need to go further as the parking brake lever was working perfectly as in pull it up and it locks the brakes nicely after 5 or 6 clicks.
It was not working properly before I replaced and adjusted the shoes.

Wanted to than everyone for the help. My ebrake cable was quite loose. Also just replaced the brake booster. Need to do a little reading about that now. But thanks again!

I was in a similar situation to psea17 when I got my 4Runner. My adjusters even worked, but still had too much travel at the e-brake handle. The auto adjuster 'click' is very quiet if you up in the driver's seat working the handle.

If everything is good in the back, you may still have some slack on the cable to take out using the adjuster inside under the handle. Just don't use that adjustment to fudge problems in the back. There should be just a small amount of cable slack so that you get max 'pull' on the bellcranks, etc. at the drums.
