Where can I get a rear black bumper to replace stock chrome?
I'm in the process of replacing everything chrome on my 3rd gen over to black. Does anyone know where I can purchase a black or primed rear bumper. I've checked ebay, craigslist and amazon?

Do you want OEM, aftermarket/OE, new, used? If aftermarket, Ebay or Rock Auto. For OEM, go to parts.toyota.com and you can compare prices of local online toyota parts dealers.

They are darn hard to find used. I’ve looked for 7 years for one for my base model which came charcoal/black. I’ve only ever found chrome.

I don't know about the early years, but for '99-'02 there is an issue. The painted (non-chrome) bumpers only came on the Limiteds with the fancy flares. If you have a base model or an SR5 like mine, your only choice is to get chrome and repaint it, which is what I did, like the poster above. I used a flap sand wheel on a grinder and went to town on the chrome leaving it nice and dull, then acid etch primer, fillable primer,Duplicolor graphite, clear coat rattle cans to match my wheels. Came out nice.
Please put your year and model in your signature. Saves us a lot of time and you will get better answers.
For new ones, I use Certafit. They have decent quality (not great) for a decent price.

If not toyota I would say just use SEM bumper paint. Tons of guys have, including myself and it works great! Just gotta scuff up the surface with a 3m scuff pad and then paint.

If you're hesitant to spray paint a bumper because you don't want to make a permanent decision like that, you can Plastidip it. Easy because it doesn't require scuffing the chrome or any prep aside from cleaning it really well. If you mess up the texture or decide to go back to chrome (though I don't know why anyone would do that ) in the future, just peel it off. I've been dipping the bumpers and grilles on my cars for years, and it holds up beautifully. Added bonus is that it protects from chips and scratches. Just did my front bumper last weekend.
