2000 4Runner for parts for a 1997 4Runner.

Considering purchasing a 2000 4Runner to use as a parts car for my 1997 4Runner. Was wondering if anything has done something similar. I would like to use the center cupholders, which I know is a popular mod. Also the steering wheel, the powered seats which I think I just have to wire into the windows, the bumpers and fender flares. It is a limited so I'm a little concerned about the bumpers. Just wondering if anyone has done something similar and what all is and isn't compatible. I know the transmission and TC are different. Could probably take the engine though.
Thanks

Wiring has some differences. I am sure it can be done but 1999 thru 2002 have the communication multiplexer bus in them 1996 thru 1998 do not.

So going to need to trace and build some circuits for your seats etc worst case.

I thought I read somewhere that you could just write them into the wiring for the electric windows. Only problem will be that they won't work when the car is off.

The Limiteds have fender flares that tie in with the body cladding on the doors. They will not be compatible with an SR5. The bumpers will also have the flair end caps that would then need to be removed because they won’t match up to your 97. The bumpers will bolt up if you wanted to use them but they’d have holes in them where the flare caps were removed. At least that’s the case for the front bumper. The rear flare is actually part of the mud flap but bolts on through the bumper but you get the idea.

Technically the transmission is a little different (different valve body) but it will definitely work in your 97 without changing anything. I installed a 99 tranny in my 97, everything bolts up/plugs in fine with no issues. It's the 01/02 trannys that don't work with the earlier years because of the lack of a kick down cable.

There are so many things to use off a parts car. When something breaks esp weird small stuff you just walk over to the parts car and pull it off. As long as you have room for it and no one to get on your case about it its so worth it

You can do what I did and swap the limited doors, front fenders, bumpers and rear limited flares onto a Sr5.. you have to drill holes or glue on the section that is right above the rear wheel wells. I just drilled and bolted them into my sr5. Then you have attach the plastic molding on the rockers. Then if you want them. Put the limited Running boards on too. ;-)
