flex pipe in exhaust?

Where is the location of the flex point in the stock exhaust? In every other vehicle I have owned there was a flex pipe or a ball flange or something where the exhaust system could pivot or flex. I am not seeing one on my truck.

Hmm. Isn't that kind of abnormal? Puts a lot of stress where the front part of the piping system meets the manifolds and/or crossover pipe.

The only vehicle I ever owned with a flex pipe is my Saturn S Series.

the entire exhaust system is only hard connected to the manifolds and then it's all rubber mounted the entire way.

there is a lot of flex in the entire length. These trucks run for 20+ years on the stock exhaust without any issue whatsoever, unless you live in the salt belt and then your screwed anyways.

I have only seen flex connections on transverse engines.

No flex pipe but you don't want one on a 4x4 vehicle. Too much vibration and movement that over time will cause it to fail. Solid steel with rubber mounts allows it to move when the frame and body shifts without the exhaust breaking.

Flex pipe is ussually used on turbo applications because the turbos are more sensitive to off angle forces from exhaust movement. They love to crack. But because of the flex pipe the exhaust in my Audi moves like a mofo.

I've always thought it was kinda odd the 4runner has no flexible area though. But stock the exhaust is pretty stiff. Mine now not so much it slaps on the frame haha
