How to price my rig to sell that had rust damage but has been fixed professionally?

I’m looking for a 4th Gen with a V8 so I can tow my popup camper easier and I’d like to sell my 02 Sport. It’s got 172k on the clock. I was new to T4R’s and knew nothing about rusted frames, and it was night and I was stupid. Anyway, passenger side frame was rusted and had a few 1” holes, as well as those triangle rear supports that were pretty shot.

My neighbor has a business restoring old muscle cars and does high dollar stuff. Frame off stuff that takes months to finish and sells for 50k. Chargers, Superbirds, etc. I took it to him and he was kind enough to bang out all the rusted pieces and weld in new frame pieces. Car looks great and he gave it his stamp of approval. There is still some light surface rust on the drivers side frame but nothing apparent when he banged the frame with a hammer. And since the car’s been in NM since I got it a few years ago (really dry and almost zero snow) the rust hasn’t progressed.

I’ve got new OME springs and new shocks all around, Tundra brake upgrade, lots of other stuff and the car is in pretty great shape.

So...how do I price a “formerly rusted” 4runner? And as much as I appreciate mechanical input it would be really cool if people didn’t just state the obvious like, shouldn’t have bought it in the first place, or, rusted cars are worthless etc. Thanks.

Might be a hard sell. I’d say full disclosure and see what happens. The demand is pretty high so maybe someone can live with it.

I guess rusted and fixed is better than rusted and not fixed yet and those still sell!

These are used vehicles and if they have a rebuilt motor or transmission and/or repaired rust this is all part of a used vehicle purchase. Sounds like your vehicle has a good repair and anyone who purchases it will be more than happy

So what about price? Just what the market will bear, or do I scale down a percentage, or something similar?

if it was professionally repaired, i don’t think it should hurt the value one bit. I’m fixing a rusted frame on my own rig and am confident it’s as good or better than the stock frame ever was

As long as you disclose the frame has been repaired you should be legal. Several of mine are now stronger then OEM. As some sections are now 1/4 think. Granted it has to be welded properly. Anyone can do it as like anything else. Takes a lot of practice to be good at it.

I think if you're upfront and honest about this, and can show that the repairs have been done by a professional welder, you're OK. Yes, it may affect the price SOME, but not a lot.

I would make it clear in your ad/to the buyer that they're welcome to take a hammer to any part of your frame and do their own inspecting- nothing to hide here, and it'll probably help your sale
