Found this at the oil cap in the engine...??

Edit. It is not metallic after testing.

I have a 2002 with about 210k miles. Bought it with 190k. Unsure of maintenance history. Recently did a compression test and all cylinders were spot on. (I had to do one on my other car so did one on the 4)

I'm guessing that the particles are wear particles. They were all stuck to the metal piece. But what are they stuck to? A piece of a ring? You can see the metal piece is serrated for lack of a better term. (Photo had to be reduced but I think you can still see that)

Just recently, rpms have started to drop while sitting still in gear and it feels as though there is something holding rpms back, a little shuddering. So I was checking trans fluid and everything along with pulleys to see if I could determine the problem

That metal piece was under the Oil cap? Or did you use it to scrape that stuff off?

No better pics than this? It would also be nice to know how big. Perhaps add a ruler and take another pic?

After I tested it, it is non metallic. I scraped all those particles off it. They are also not metallic.

That's about the best picture I could get. There is an upload size limit.

It is about 2 inches long. Turns out it is non metallic as are the particles.

Do you have an iPhone? I get around the size thing by taking a pic with my iPhone and emailing it to myself. When I do, it gives me a choice of 4 resolutions before sending, and I usually pick the next-to-smallest one (it can actually be bigger than T4R's official limit - this screen shot was 575k. I think they resize to fit if it's not huge). I then go get it from my email and use that pic to upload to T4R. I don't know if Android phones give you a similar option.
