Stereo woes
Hello
I'm taking the route of hard wiring (yeah, not my preferred method ) my Alpine KTP445A amp & my Alpine HD149BT stereo in my 2001 Limited. I have totally wired this thing to where it should be but I'm wondering now if this ever-so-vague "1987-up" s^@t that is all I can find is accurate or not. I wired everything properly and now I'm not getting ANYTHING from the aftermarket.
Can someone PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD give me a copy of a wiring diagram that is WITHOUT FAIL correct? I have the FM/CD/Cassette with factory amp.....
I have been trying and trying to google and search function an answer but everything I can find is confusing or inconclusive...Including what the hell I am supposed to do for my power antenna (do I wire the pink/blue with the black/white and tie it into the aftermarket "power antenna" wire?
HELP

I dont have a diagram but, did you remove the factory amp? My head unit wouldn't work with it and didnt have any sound but, once I took the amp out of the system, it worked fine

Based on my memory of doing this install 7 years ago (in a 1997 4R), ^^this is true.
I remember working from the instructions provided by Crutchfield. They seemed good at the time, for my vehicle.

Yes, I did that, and replaced it with the aftermarket in-dash amp. I tried the stereo without the amp in between it and the speaker wires as well to no avail.

Here is the 2002 EWD. Your 2001 should be the same.
http://www.teamtoyota4x4.org/archivi...mci/052rap.pdf
Describe your issue in more detail. No sign of power or it powers up but no sound? If no power ay all, check BOTH fuses ACC and DOME. Do NOT just look. Use a meter or swap in a known good one. Also check the fuses (in-line or built-in) on your new unit.

Alpine manual - PAGE 52
I am not sure where you are stuck. The install is straight forward if you got the aftermarket wiring harness. Please refer to ALPINE install manual starting on page 52:
http://support.alpine-usa.com/produc...HD149BT_EN.pdf
Everything else should fall in place. If not, please take pix of your wiring please

Okay, I'm sorry to dig up an old post, but I still am stuck right where I was before. I'm really struggling here, NONE of the HUNDREDS of wiring diagrams I've seen correlate to the wiring in my truck. I'm baffled
All im trying to do is reconnect this factory plug set
The problem is, every single wiring diagram I've seen doesnt match. For instance, the wiring diagram above features a red and black wire. Mine does not. I don't know what to do about the "power antenna" wires......I'm just totally lost here. Can someone PLEASE help me out here?
This is the wire color scheme my truck has, which of course plugged into the factory amp which is removed.
For what it's worth my factory toyota stereo was a 86120-0c040
Any body who can help me will have my undying gratitude.

I'd skip the wiring diagrams.
See it for yourself and you'll know the truth.
So you are trying to re-use existing speaker wiring and power/ground, right?
If so, I would pull each speaker and see what color wires go to each, then connect those to the new amp. So here I am saying skip the connector, cut the correct two colors one speaker at a time and wire into amp.
Then with ignition in On position, I would use a voltmeter to figure out which wire is the hot and ground unless you want to wire those new from battery. If you go that route, use a fuse right at the battery on the hot, safety first.
The only wire left to connect now is the Signal wire, this one receives positive 12v when ignition is on only and signals to the amp to turn on, when you have ignition on and head unit turned on.
You will understand your radio wiring much better this way and can impress your friends.
That's it. Questions?

In the 2001 4Runner, the power wire is gray, the constant power wire is blue/yellow, the ground wire is brown, the remote amp turn on wire (added by me between the head unit and the amp) is blue, the illumination wire is violet and the dimmer wire is white/black. I found the color guide at my.prostreetonline.com.
In my car stereo, the amp is powered directly from the battery and grounded to the chassis.
I cut the connectors off the factory wiring harnesses and connected the wires I needed to my head unit individually. I only used four wires in my whole system that are “Toyota” wires.

OKAY, THIS IS THE INFORMATION I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR. YOU TWO ARE THE HEROES OF THE DAY. I'll be sure to be a good one and check back in with a field report.
Thanks guys.

That's how I helped my brother wire in his amp and head unit. We had no experience wiring a Honda but once you eliminate the 8 speaker wires, power, and ground the rest gets pretty easy.

Okay, All of this makes sense. Eliminating all the speaker and power/ground wires makes one at at time does make it easier. My only question is, as far as the power antenna (pink/blue & black/white) wires go, what do I do with them? or the other "toyota" wires....Are there any of the others that I need?
I've almost got this figured out

once you've ID'd everything you need, tested it and you know it works, then at a minimum tape off the unused leads. better is clip and tape off if you have lots of slack and no specialized connectors you care about trying to use later.
in terms of what you need, well i assume you need at least four speakers, gnd and two power leads. do you have a sub? test to be sure that sound comes from every speaker in relatively the same loudness. i don't mean twiddle the balance, but more like, if two are active and two are passive, you may have a wrench in the works. once you are satisfied with the sound coming out all of the speakers, and it works properly, tape off and bundle the unused leads. label them if you know what they are by that point in time. depending on how many you have left, stuff them in some wire loom or at least secure with a couple cable ties so they can be stowed back behind in that tangle of crap back there.
what to do with the antenna wire? that's up to you. do you listen to AM/FM? if so, connect it. if you don't, you may turn the unit on and the antenna automagically goes up and stays up. mine did, and so i connected the antenna wire temporarily so the antenna mast went down, then cleanly clipped and wrapped the antenna motor positive in the fender.

I don’t know from experience, but I would assume that if you have a power antenna and want it to go up and down, you should hook up the antenna wire. In my 4th gen, I just plugged the actual antenna into the back of my head unit, with a splitter of sorts to attach both antennas into the head unit.
I have never used the illumination/dimmer wire(s).
As far as I know, there are no more “Toyota” wires. I have a lot of wires not hooked up to anything, especially with all the stock speaker wires. Assuming the industry standard colors, I have only used the red, black, yellow and blue wires.

I wired mine in and both the factory dimmer and the power antenna work just fine.
I need to actually pull my bezel off, I could pull my head unit out and take a few pics and check which wires were for antenna for you. If I recall correctly the antenna was orange and had a loop on one end. I also used metra block plugs both on the factory side and head unit side for what that's worth.
