Tundra Bilstein Lift question (front)
Hey all
To those running TRD coils/Tundra Bilies up front, I was curious as to what perches you guy have the shocks set at and how much lift you saw from it. I'm aiming for 2.5-3in, and while I initially was gonna go off Sonoran Steel's guide, which says use the third perch, it seems the more digging I do on these forums the wider array of answers I find - some say 3rd, some say 2nd, some stay on the bottom, some advise staying away from the 3rd without extra weight, etc. Some personal experiences (and pictures!) as to how it looks and feels would be great
Fwiw I'm going to be running Tokico Blacks/Dobinson 210v coils in rear and would prefer not to ride like a shopping cart. I do plan on mounting a 60lb tube bumper up front very soon, possibly a winch too. A little rake is fine, but I'd really like to avoid having to dealing with spring compressors and breaking down these struts just to move the snap ring, especially after an afternoon of installation

SS1.2 3"-4" lift kit, Front 2nd 3rd perch DS, 8 wrap LC rear.
Stock bumper, Ride was firm on good surface wavy surface, RR tracks not so good roads needed extra weight front and rear.
With Dobson doubt you have as much rake, don't know their specs.
If Dobson has less lift than 4" 8 wrap, the 1st & 2nd perch up front is where I'd start from my experience.
Pic is ride height after 3 yr 75k mi so it's settled in, putting winch on, finally.

Do you mean you're running 2nd perch on one side and 3rd on the other??
Edit: Dobinson makes progressive rate LC coils, the 210v are either the same as 7.5 or 8 wraps, can't remember which but it's one of them

Yes, 2nd PS 3rd DS compensate for driver side lean.

Any reason you didn't go with trim packers? I just remembered that I never bought any, goddamn it. Might be taking these struts down again anyways to put em in so may just do 2nd perch for now.
Still bumping for other answers too

Trim packers for rear. I didn't need them with 8 wrap's.
Follow Bilstein instructions, DS 1 groove higher.

Got a link? Bilstein didn't send me shit for instructions. They sent me two copies of one page, half of which is telling me to regard other pages. I'm actually trying to double check I assembled them correctly right now, cause they were so useless (lookin like I'm missing a bushing)

Bilstein.com, shows assembly on instruction page. The web instructions don't mention the L/R perch height difference. 2009 Had Steve at Sornoran assemble my first set for me for 3" lift he used 2nd & 3rd perch. First pic is 2-3 perch, second is 3-4 perch, compensate for winch and plate.
Perch 2&3 is 2.5-75" lift LCA adjustment was maxed out. 3&4 full 3" lift needed SPC UCA's to get alignment right.

You mentioned Tube bumper 60# depending on what you have. 01 fat lip bumper and associated parts I removed weighed 93# AOR plate 112#, skinny lip didn't weigh probably 40#. You won't notice 20# difference, 30# you will less weight is a plus.

I've heard that said before but I can assure you my bumper is not metal and weighs maybe 10-15 pounds, magnet doesn't stick either. It's obviously been resprayed too and when I took it off a couple months back, the mounts were completely swayed to the passenger side - so I'm thinking the last owner took a ding at some point and replaced the OEM bumper with some cheap aftermarket one that he painted over.

Gonna depend on Dobson lift what you do up front.

Well this certainly wouldve been nice to know - that the coils interfere with the UBJ knuckle.

3rd perch was definitely the answer for pairing with Dobinsons! Hell of a time getting them in there and had to grind away some of that knuckle for extra clearance, but she rides beautifully now!

You bet your ass I didn't! Just took a peak and my driver's side is fairly close, which would explain why it wasn't so severe on that side and worse on the passenger, but when I was out there working it still looked like if they compressed even a decent bit they would clang
Mind you this was just while installing everything - now that it's all said and done it sits a few inches away, easily. Really it was just to make life easier while trying to tickle the struts into place
