Which 5100 shocks do you have? At 23.5" front, that's at the extension limit of the 5100 shocks for the 4Runner or Tundra. And that's why the ride is harsh and feels like it's being tossed around because when it hits a pothole, the shock no longer extends as its always extended.

I have about 700-800 miles on my set up now.
rides much smoother but still kinda harsh, truck get tossed around going through pot holes and similar rood obstacles. I know it going to feel worse offroading. I think the Bilstein 5100 are too stiff for these springs. I like the springs. If we get a second covid check I'll probably replace the Bilsteins with Dobinsons shocks and see how those ride.

This week I spoke to 2 different vendors for Dobs. One vendor said he doesn't recommend Dobs struts, as they tend to leak (umm isn't it the other way around?, you'll see) and instead to go with Bilsteins and Dobs coils, but they mostly recommend Bilsteins and OME/EMU. They seemed to have a hard on for Billies LOL.

Second vendor said to go with front C59-276 and rear C59-131 for a 2 inch lift front and rear with a small rake. He said the 276 is reported to give 2 inches. I asked about front c59-134 since Dobsdirect. com says it's for 2in lift, he said that 134 is for added weight (110lbs) on the front like a fab'd bumper or added winch therefore I run the risk of front being slightly higher or too level resulting in reverse rake when loaded (passengers or cargo). In addition due to more lift from higher sprint rate (longer spring/less compressed)from no added weight, the front shocks will have less travel and be a harsher ride.

I then called Dobinson's direct. I asked for a recommendation for 2in with slight rake. They said to go with 134 front / 131 rear to get a 2 inch lift with "factory type rake". Dobs rep said front C59-276 is a "get back to factory lift" and that all their coils are designed to give factory lift plus the added "lift" in product description.

Part # options/descriptions for 3rd gen front coils seem to be different on all sites.

FRONT
C59-276 (1.75" lift) Dobs. com
C59-276 (2" lift light-Med load) RSGoffroad. com
C59-276 (2" lift light to medium load) Exitoffroad. com

C59-134 (2" lift) Dobs. com
C59-134 (2" lift heavy load 110-220LBS) RSGoffroad. com
C59-134 (2" lift heavy load 110-220LBS) Exitoffroad. com

C59- 238 (2.5in lift)

REAR
C59- 131 (2in)
C59- 137V (2in 220lbs load)

I will not run any front or rear bumper/armor. I don't want Bilsteins, I want a full Dobs set up (not IMS/black ones). Can anyone with an ALL Dobs set up and their experience provide their insight on 276 or 134 springs for the front to achive a 2" (slight rake or level is okay) lift with REAR C59-131? Will the 134 he harsh due to less travel?

P.S. Not sure if it matters, but I have a 2002 SR5 4WD Sport Edition

da_dre

thanks for all the info,
if i go the dobsion 2 inch looks like it will be the 134/137 combo as I will be putting on a bumper and winch in front and haul a lot during the "season"
looks like they are progressive , so wont be harsh when unloaded.
I like Billies and have had good luck with KYB's, not familiar with long term results on Dobsion shocks

But then reading this leads me to believe that twin tube is not going to offer comparable performance next to a mono tube outside of daily driving applications:

Monotube and twin-tube - KYB Americas

Twin tube design seems to only offer greater protection offroad, but at a cost of performance. I guess depending on the frequency you'll be hitting the trails and with what kind of load will ultimately determine what you want to end up with in relation to your budget:

Shock Absorbers for the Offroad – Shock Surplus

These images?, if so, it's from Dobs catalog. I cut the sections up and zoomed them in. 2.7 and 3.4 motor vs 3.0 Turbo Diesel results in diff mm/in. lift due to weight of motors.

again, thanks for the info.
Bit confused, I had read, and some pictures look like the springs are progressive ( which I lilke) then some look like only the rears are progressive.

I really liked my previous set up ( totaled) with the tundra front springs that were progressive.

well that stinks.....the source listed above, when I went through the " cart" to check prices.....do not ship to fairbanks alaska.......argggg

I will have to come up wiht a solution this spring, as now my stock system rubs at times with 70 seires winter tires ( rub in front) , and I got the typical sag issue in the back, and my summer wheels and tires are 265/75/16 ko'2....dont think they will fit with this worn out suspension on this rig. 285k and looks all stock ( suspension)
