What's this plug

New here with a third gen. I normally drive a 5 gen and decided to buy this 98 for my kid who will be of driving age next year. Its a Limited. We spend the summer tearing out all the suspension and all rubber parts, radiator and such. Tonight was our first drive. No more nose dive, nice. I discovered the 4WD light isn't coming on. We removed almost everything on the interior to clean it, had new leather seats recovered, thinking I knock something loose. After I stuck my hand under the canter console, the 4wd light would flash and goes off. Now I must find that damn loose wire. My question here is, what the heck does this plug into? Not 4wd light, I am sure. Its right under cig tray in front of the transfercase shifter.

Thanks

Jeff

No one? It was jsut dangling there and everything looks to be working. Maybe an extra plug for some other option?

There is a plug that fits into an empty dead slot in the radio bezel in that area on mine, but I don’t think that is it.

I’ll go out on a limb and say that doesn’t look factory to me but it’s hard to tell from the photo. Does it tie into the factory harness? If not follow it to see where it goes. Yes, it really does not look factory, some aftermarket add on likely.

I just had the center trim out in my 2000 and didn't notice any plug matching that. It doesn't look OEM toyota to me.

As others said, it's likely not OEM. My '97 has nothing even remotely similar in that area. Also most OEM wires in that area are smaller gauge, closer to 18-20. These look to be at least 16AWG.

Did you back trace where that wires goes too? Highly likely you'll find it was spliced into the electrical system by a 3rd party.

It actually looks like the power supply connection to older style disk drives from 2000's.

That type of plug really does not look like anything like TOYOTA would make. It screams cheap aftermarket plug for radar/radio/theft/etc add-on.

Good, I feel better. I have to tear into a little more. My kid and I have torn into it once. Now, I must deal with the 4WD light. Thanks for your help.

That's aftermarket something for sure.
