Over torqued head bolts

I put my heads on today and only now it hit me that I over torqued them. I did the paint dots as in the FSM. Except like an idiot I now realized I did 180 degrees per turn! I read it 90 +90 but for whatever reason I thought 180 each way. Gonna redo them tomorrow. You think the bolts can be reused? I didn't hear anything bad so i think the heads are fine

I backed them off to the backwards position and they felt loose. And they're torque to yield, they're toast. I'm buying new ones. The gasket however...it is multi layered steel. I wonder if that's toast too? I doubt I can tell by the naked eye

I would think the gasket would be fine since it's going right back on the same head/block but hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in.

The gasket is fine, but like you said the head bolts need replaced.

I'm sure you know this, but for anyone that stumbles across this: when the FSM says 90 degrees plus 90 degrees that means torque all the head bolts in the torque sequence 90 degrees, then go back and torque them all another 90 degrees in the torque sequence again. Don't torque 90 degrees on the first bolt twice then go to the next bolt.

Yes it says in passes too so that's clear. So you don't think the gasket is toast since it's metal. Couldn't have been thinned too much?

I think the head gaskets should be good as long as you didn't remove the heads from the block. I'd use the same new head gaskets you've already torqued down and feel confident in them lasting just as long as a fresh OEM set would

I did remove one head to take a look at the gasket. It has the indentations now so it should fit right back on there

I would replace the head gaskets.

Don’t take a chance

Get new headbolts and head gaskets and you won’t be worrying everytime you drive it.

that's what I'm thinking. I spent all this time ripping everything apart, I made a $200 mistake, skipping the gaskets is only saving me 80 bucks. I just put on my big boy pants and take it like a man haha. I'm still mad at how I screwed up. I don't make silly mistakes like that.

I put the heads on the wrong sides when I was assembling my rebuild. I only figured it out when I went to install the intake.

I used the YotaTech kit. It came with everything needed to replace heads. Even valve stem seals.

I thought the driver's side looks different. Also I noticed mine, which were supposedly oem had L and R on each gasket to identify them
