The repair piece is 11 gauge and my millermatic 130 will weld 1/4” plate with .040 wire.

Yes all 110 welders can do 1/4 plate with multiple passes. I just thought that for folks reading this that if possible its better to use a 220 volt welder.

I always weld my ground bar to the steel I am working on too so I have a good ground close by for better welds as well.

.40 wire will do very well in your project.

I mostly use .35 for heavier steel 1/8 inch. I need to get a better welder though. I have outgrown my original one.
