Rev limiter?

I love my '02, but get annoyed when the cruise control wants to rev the engine up to 4.5k when going up a slight incline at sea level. I cancel cruise and go up the same incline without losing a single mile per hour at under 3k. Whoever programmed the cruise control to be so aggressive deserves to be flogged, in my opinion.

My question is whether anyone knows of a modification or new piece of shiny technology to limit the revs while cruise control is set so that I can get on with driving like an old lady? I'm fine with losing speed uphill as long as I don't have to watch my truck freak out on every small hill it encounters.

My guess is I am out of luck, but your thoughts and expertise are appreciated.

4500 rpm is well under redline and there is no issue with it reving that high. The computer is just trying to maintain the speed you set the most efficient way. If for some reason you want to lug the engine and slow down while going up a hill, kick the CC off before.
