An 02 with 190,000 sold a a dealership in my area for 12,000 a few years ago. 3 months ago a 96 sold in 3 days from another. I didn’t even have time to call for an asking price.

this one went for $35,000 ON 9/14/20 so I kind of expect this one to fetch maybe more? timing does come into play on these auctions.

I’m sorry, but something’s just not right here. I went onto cargurus, eBay motors, and iseecars to look at the prices of 3rd gen 4Rs. I couldn’t find one above $2000. And most seemed to be in good condition. I know this one has only 25,000 miles. But it’s old. And I don’t think 4Runners are considered classics. Wagoneers, however...

I'm not disagreeing that the price on this one is crazy, but there is no way you are going to find a "good condition" third gen for less than $2k. Around me you aren't going to find a 2WD in any condition unless you are willing to pay $3k. You don't start seeing stuff in decent condition until you get over $5k, and for lower mileage stuff (150k miles) $8k or more isn't uncommon.

Something is wrong with your search algorithm! Did you mean 20,000? Check BaT auction results. An outlier, for sure, but someone there mentioned that the record for a 3rd gen is 46,000.....

I didn’t know these 3rd gens came with stock transfer case skid plates. Does it come on all models? Are they hard to find if so?

Except for the fact that a lot of people (the buyers, specifically) are older and have cash to burn; I am in that demographic. Although I am not out looking to spend $20K+ on a 4R, if I come across one that is in pretty good shape for the age...spending 15K isn't out of the realm of possibility. Getting old does have a *few* perks.

I tried searching for these on google and couldn’t find it. I’d like to find one on car-parts, but what would you search for? I might have to make a trip to the pick and pull and see what I can find. Also by chance would Tacoma have the same one?

That's not a transfer skid plate. That skid plate is a piece of plastic to cover the fuel filter and lines. The skid plate transfer is in the bottom of the transfer case.

Used to be able to buy those new. Not sure if they are available anymore. None of my 4x4 has those left. They got caught on things. Or PO removed them..

I have it that fuel filter cover!

The interior of that 25 K mile truck is as my 215 K mile truck! The tech at Firestone said the interior looks like new!

Are they more problematic off-road? I guess I could see it getting caught on branches or logs perhaps.

My 01 had it when I got it removed it. Anything you drag crossmember across is going to hit the filter guard first,
mud, stick, grass catcher comes to mind. Works great hanging in attic.

$.02 worth, both these things are sales gimmicks Toyota can say look we put this n this on. Neither protect anything.
