Have had my AOR plate bumper couple years, same experience, is what it is, I like it, guess I'd do it again.
Making your own, tools needed plus sourcing the steel without having to buy full sheets or sticks of it.
Tube bumper could be shaped up using a Greenlee power rigid conduit bender, know any electricians.

13 wks it showed up in 2018, now days tack on a bit.

mine came out perfect, took longer then expected but didn't bother them at all, probably why mine was in good shape, well worth the wait if you own a 3rd gen, nothing compares.

I'm pretty sure I could come up with a bumper and make it. The problem with me is: I'm way over precise, I like tools that work well. so I have to have the good tools. I would end up spending about 4x the cost of the bumper in tools and I know it. I'm not going to fool myself. know thyself, it's hard to admit your faults but that is mine.

my table saw is a powermatic and has a huge cast iron trunnion that is smooth like silk cutting 3" thick white oak. my jointer is an old 8" jet that is super heavy and has a shelix cutting head on it... I like commercial quality tools because they make the job fun. doing things is frustrating anyways but it super sucks if your fighting your tools as well.

I'm not complaining at all about addicted offroad. I pretty much expected the bumper to just show up one day far in the future and I would be like hey cool!

I made peace with that before I ordered.
