4X Innovations front bumper winch install ?s

Has anyone installed a winch in a 4X front bumper?

4X claims a winch will fit in the front bumper with clocking which it will the problem is the control box will not.

Two options I see at this point are.
1. Remote mount the control box under the hood somewhere and add 3 longer cable leads $$$

2. Cut a area out of the top of the bumper and also remove a section out of the bottom of the grill just below the Toyota emblem so that the control box could be mounted in a normal fashion.

yes you will have to trim just a bit of the grill, other than that is slipped into the bumper like a glove.

I am trying to shoe horn in a HF Badlands ZXR12000 and running into similar issues, By the looks of things my control box is slightly larger which might take more trimming not wanting to butcher anything more than necessary I will have to look at offsetting like you did instead of mounting it centered over the winch. Thnks

I'm running a smitty gen2 xcr 9500 in my 4x. The control box is mounted behind grill to center support with a notch cut at the top of grill for the remote connection port to be accessed easily. This is the best photo I got right now. I can take more later if you're interested.

Yes interested in more pics if possible, I had looked at the center support as a location but the A/C lines looked like they might get in the way and also access for the remote so I also considered a wireless remote.

Looking for peoples solutions for control box mounting.

I put a Warn Zeon 8S in mine. I just trimmed a little metal out of the back edge of the bumper, and a little off the bottom of the grille. Gives clearance for the control pack and access to the 'shifter' lever.

Let me see if I can explain what I did with a Shittybilt 10k control box.

Basically I reused the brackets that mount the control box to the winch body, to mount it it to the top of the bumper just over the winch. There are "clips" that you can latch onto the rear of the top plate. Then I spanned the front of those 2 brackets with a small piece of bar stock, which I ran screw through, threading into the top of the bumper. I did have to open up the front grill to fit around it. I'm bad a describing things and it's simpler than it sounds.

Good to know. I've got a 4x bumper and have a X20 sitting on the shelf waiting to go on.

Has anyone managed to mount an Apex Badlands 12k on a 4xI with no body lift option? I thought someone in the "What didyou do today" thread was replying to me saying they did it but upon closer inspection it seems that it's a Warn Zenon and they had a body lift so taller bumper >< I just got my bumper in on Saturday and am test fitting things. Relocation box and clutch handle both don't fit and there is no way to clock them on this winch. Also looking at the fairlead I'm wondering if the screws are going to crash into the winch body, even if I put the washers on the fairlead side of things. I think I might have hosed myself and either need to find a new winch or a new bumper >< At least I got both on labor day sale and hopefully can recoup my costs on either one.

After closer investigation I think the solenoid relocation isn't as big a deal, just shave a bit of the top of the box. Also the freespool won't be a big deal if I can extend it and just drill a hole for the handle to go through, anyone done this?

IffyKid, what did you end up doing? If you were successful, what winch did you end up going with?
