Selling my t4r 2001 sr5
Hey folks, looking for a little advice. My 4runner of 15years decided to die on me. The mechanic that looked at it said the attachment from the crankshaft to the harmonic balancer is most likely the culprit. Basically, I was driving one day then all my power went out. Power steering etc. The engine was still running and so I only drove 20-30ft to get out of the way. Lifted the hood. The engine running, making some bad sounds and none of the belts were turning so I knew that wasn't good and turned it off and towed it to my mechanic.
That's where I am now. I agreed that because of all the costs associated with figuring out the exact problem and then fixing the "connection" I described, would not guarantee that there isn't engine damage. Not wanted to put any money into fixing it, I want to get the best price out of it. Aside from being a 4Runner, it has a rebuilt transmission that is only a year and a half old. It has 196,000 miles.
a few questions: I was thinking of asking $2000 or the best offer. Maybe 1500 is better? Is what I described an accurate assessment of what would need to be done to fix it? Should I just sell it to a junkyard and wash my hands of it? Is it worth it to try and sell it privately?
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
