I’m willing to bet your ‘dangling spark plug wire’ was because the plug shot out; that would also *possibly* explain the tick.
No compression on cyl 5 can be because there are. I threads left for the compression tester to hold onto.
Get a second opinion; or get it home and look yourself.

i did get a second opinion, and thank god i did, because they just called to tell me they fixed it. Just blew out a spark plug and the first shop wasn’t competent enough to figure it out.
I was over here freaking out that i might have blown my engine. Not going back to that first shop ever again. (they had the nerve to charge me a $45 diagnostic fee)
