Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to do extra work, lol. Like I said, I think the big difference is the box I'm using for my relays. The relay box orients the relays in a vertical manner (just like the stock relay block) and the design makes it so that there needs to be ~ 4" of clearance (3" above the mount for the box, and 1" below for the wires).

I ran a few mockups and here's what I found:

- 4" above the proposed spot on the driver's side doesn't work
- 2" above the proposed spot on the driver's side doesn't work
- 1.5" above the proposed spot on the driver's side will clear the hood
- 2" relocated closer to the engine would clear the hood, but I'm not sure this would look any better and it seems you would be exposing everything to higher temps b/c you would be right over the exhaust manifold
- Without moving the cruise or the ABS unit, I can get the box I want to use to clear the hood, though it does make light contact with the hood insulation.

So, I see that leaves me with a couple of obvious options:

1. Use the box I already have an put it on the passenger side of the engine compartment
2. Use a different box or build my own custom setup that is 1.5" or less in clearance and put that on the driver's side.

I'm not completely attached to the box I have, but I do like it because it's waterproof, well organized, and it was only like $17 including the relays and all the connectors. I've considered the bussmann 15303-2-2-4 like the build on tacoma world but it is 5"x4"x3" so I don't think it would clear that spot on the driver's side either, and the box and relays plus connectors would be close to $60 (not that the price is outrageous, but it is 3x as much and has one less relay). Bosch style relays with brackets are ~ 1.3", which, when combined with the thickness of the acrylic or abs board would still be under 1.5", so it should definitely clear the driver's side. The pro's are that I could make I could completely customize it and that it is definitely preferable to locate it on the driver's side for wire runs and firewall access. The cons would really be losing the waterproof box, which I guess isn't too big of a deal since I see lots of other folks with relays outside of waterproof enclosures.

Thoughts?

That is a nice looking fuse/relay box. I can see you wanting to stick with it.

Since it is a sealed box, what about finding a spot where you can use your acrylic and relay box with the top facing sideways instead of up? Does that open up any more options? Vertical mount instead of horizontal. I see it done that way on the firewall of some transport trucks.

It's a good idea that I hadn't considered, but after looking things over, I still don't see how it could fit on the driver's side. I've went ahead and ordered a 12 circuit blue sea box like most others have, along with some stand-alone waterproof relays. I'll probably dry fit everything when it comes tomorrow to see if it's doable for the drivers side.
