Maxiumum F/R Shock Collasped Lengths

Wanted to collect some more information to add to my database for the community and myself.

I have a list of shocks for the front and rear, but there seems to be conflicting information over the maximum collapsed lengths. Basically at what point is the shock too long collapsed to where it would affect up travel or cause damage.

So far, some guys say around 14" is the max for the rear, does everyone concur? What is the max for the front?

My hope is to eventually make some kind of detailed information guide so we can better plan out suspension work.

That's going to vary a lot depending on stock/extended bump stops, body lift, and tire size/wheel specifications. Some people like eimkeith have cut the front bump stops down to allow more up travel. He had to modify his front inner fender to allow the tire to go up that high.

I thought about it and I think I should have worded it like so:

Assume you remove all tires, with stock bumpstops, what's the maximum collapsed/compressed measurement before the shock starts to overcompress and "become the bumpstop".

Basically we need this foundational control information so we can better plan out mods. My thought is that we are just blindly extending bumpstops and it may be unnecessary or we might not be extending enough.
